Smudger there is nothing to stop you appealing. You wont win but feel free. Nothing will come of it cos well it just wont. It wont even be entertaining. A complete non entity. Shame.

Tim Vine may well use that particular one liner, but Tommy Cooper used it a long time before.

I pay council tax (as do most of us) but i've never received a double yellow line parking permit.

Since you have been driving have you really not learned that you are not allowed to park on double yellow lines?

    Is this a wind up?

Where and when? Is there any evidence of this?

Try a search engine, you'll find it listed many times, here's one example:

Edit: although reading a bit further found some suggestions that some Tim Vine one-liners have been misattributed to TC and been perpetuated across the internet - there seems to be no conclusive decision either way.

Yep, loads of Tim Vine's jokes have been attributed to Tommy Cooper. So in the absence of any evidence of Tommy Cooper having told this joke, I'm saying it's Tim Vine's.

(Here's Tim Vine telling the joke in 1996: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2NOgowPyeCY)
  • Except that when Tommy Cooper told it, the internet hadn't been invented, and the BBC have re-recorded over it due to the high cost of tape in those days - the reason why so many treasures have been lost :(

Don't get me wrong, I think Tim Vine is a very funny guy, love all his stuff. But I've still got a soft spot for the old timers :-)

I can actually remember Tommy Cooper making the joke, on a TV programme back in the 70s or thereabouts. Cracked me up then, and now. It went something like:

I got complimented on my driving the other day. I got back to the car, and someone had stuck a notice on saying 'parking fine'. Nice of them.
If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.

    Insanity perhaps. :D
