    Hi Katrina 798,

I'm so sorry to hear that you have been taken in by this type of Scam, however please be assured that you are not the only one that this has happened to and there are thousands if not millions of others all over the world in the same position. I am an active member of 419 eater and we actively try and fight this and other similar types of scam (visit the forum page on http://www.419eater.com/ , it makes an interesting read). I would also strongly suggest that you also make a visit to http://www.scamwarners.com/, and post your experience there. There are many people who like you have been or know someone close to them who has succumbed to these scams and will give excellent and practical advice and more importantly they will not judge you or call you foolish.
    All the best

foolish. Meanig :- void of understanding; without judgment or discretion; unwise.

I don't think anyones judged her here, I just told her what she has done is foolish, which it is.

Unfortunately, just as ignorance is no defence in law, neither is it a safeguard against scammers. Helpfullness and greed also come into play here. Offering the individual lots of tax free cash to do a favour, on there misunderstanding of how the banking system works.

The internet is a very dangerous place for lots of people, which is why the scammers make so much money out of it.

you're on the wrong site !

the motto of this site should be "if it sounds too good to be true, bag it first then post it on the MSE forums !" :rotfl:

    Isn't it £8,000 now.

I visited a few Car Auctions recently and it was a plastered all over the place they can only accept Cash up to £7,999 due to money laundering regs.

Generally £9k is considered a limit for most businesses. Maybe the auction house has a £8k limit and want their fees paid by card - or they want enough left to cover their fees.

back to the original topic (the only connection I can see with the above conversation being the generic word 'scam'), it appears Paypal have recovered the funds and have refunded me - hope this applies also to the many others who paid a lot more than me
