I bid for & won 2 of these phones. I received an e-mail today saying my 1st purchase (Monday) was being despatched today. Fingers crossed it comes.

I suspect this may be a delaying tactic to give him time to empty the account and run - strange that no-one from the purchases last Monday & Wednesday have left any feedback, suggesting no-one's received anything. I logged a warning with Paypal on Thursday so I'd be interested to see their defence if my suspicions are proved, not as if they didn't have time to act.

Anyone know if their Paypal Protection will kick in on these purchases ? The listing suggests they are covered... that being the case there#s plenty of motivation for Paypal/Ebay to act to pre-empt this scam.

It may still turn out kosher - even if it does it the seller's integrity would still be in question the way he's abused the feedback system

I have been in contact with Paypal regarding this as I am now beginning to think this is a scam as well. I have been told that I am covered & should get my money refunded. I will give it until the end of the week & if nothing arrives I will open a dispute. Probably along with many others. I will definately be a lot more cautious in the future with Ebay, by checking people's feedback thoroughly. I am so annoyed though as it will probably take a while to get my money back & I am still in need of a new phone.

Anyone received their phones yet? I haven't, bought a reduced one from Tesco just in case they don't come. It is looking very doubtful now.

Still not arrived. Seller said it would be here by Thursday. Have sent an e-mail to the seller, just waiting for a reply with excuses now.

  • Sorry this is a little off the subject. But need some advice and I don't know how to post a new thread. Speaking of scams I have recently fallen for the 'lodger that sends you a cheque for too much money' one. The bank cleared the cheque into your account, so I sent the money on and then low and behold the bank tells you the money hasn't really cleared and withdraw the funds to the tune of £4.1k. I wouldn't have fallen for this scam if my bank hadn't cleared the money. I am very anger with my bank for clearing the money. Had they never cleared the money in the first place I would not have spent it. I feel that banks should be doing more to protect their customers if this sort of thing happens a lot. Has anyone ever successfully taken a bank to court over this and won their money bank. I am prepared to go as far as I need to, in order to resolve this and protect people in the further. Any information you can give is greatly appreciated..... or just supportive comments will do : )

Common scam. Its nothing to do with the bank, as cheques cannot be considered cleared for months, its down to individuals foolishness, helpfullness and greed.

IMO suing a bank over this would result in you losing even more money.

Where did you send the money too? How much did you sell the original for, total of cheque was £4100, what was the amount you were offered for this service.
  • The full cheque was for £4,800 I paid £4100 in cash at a post office, to pay for 'goods' which were obviously fictious (he needed them for his job over here!). I withdrew the money in cash at one of my banks branches, and the lady behind the counter said nothing. I paid the money at the post office, and my bank phoned me 3 days later. I was thinking of going to the small claims court £200, after losing £4k, £200 is nothing. It would make me feel better to hear a judge make a verdict, quite frankly I have lost all faith in the banking system, so why would I trust anything they tell me. That is why I am searching for further advice. Many thanks, please keep it coming.
