    How rude
I was in Sainsburgs, and happened to pass the reduced section, and there was something in the chilled section that was reduced 50% that I fancied. So I put it in my trolley.
Later on i was passing again, and the lady had reduced the same items to 75% off, so obviously I popped the one in my trolley back, and picked up one of the further reduced ones.

She turned round to me and screached 'You cant do that!'
So I politely informed her that it was obvious that I was going to do that, as it was cheaper.
She then told me she would have to throw out the one I put back.
I informed her that if she reduced that one, I would take it instead, she just barked back saying she could not do that, and then proceeded to throw it in the bin!
Stupid stubborn cow! All to prove a point that was lost on me
Not what I would have liked to expect from Sainsburys. :o

I would be complaining to them for that. Not only is it very rude to you as a customer, but it is also a ridiculous waste of food.
  • I was just thinking that! I'm curious, what's the most out of date item you still use? (condoms don't count!

white wine vinegar - best before Aug 1997:)

    from Safeway ... remember them?

But it's vinegar, so perfectly safe.

Jelly you don't know how much better you have made me feel. :rotfl:

But I have probably been through 34 bottles of white wine vinegar compared to yours that looks hardly started.

Body pump - it's not cardio based, it's lifting weights, with lots of repetitions. Get's you toned and buff very quickly. You don't half ache afterwards :D

I've been through a few as well; I found this at the back of the cupboard during a recent clear-out, so have only just started using it.

I also had some tinned sweetcorn BB 5/2002, which I used ... and am still hear to write about it:p

    [1] Their problem.
    [2] The store's problem too.
    [3] Correct!

We all occasionally take stuff from shelves, or refrigerators, that we may put back before leaving the store. May change our mind, decide we don't want them after all. Sometimes we've only had them for a few minutes, if that. Apparently if something is out of the fridge for more than 20 minutes, stores have to throw it away. I suppose she did have to do that, as she could not know that it had not been out of the fridge for that long.

We certainly can put stuff back - just because we touch an item, or even take it from a shelf, does not mean that we are committed to buying it. My understanding is as follows. Once we touch something, it is an "appropriation" according to Theft Act law. However, as we intended to be going to buy it at the time we touched it, it is not a dishonest appropriation and therefore does not result in an offence of theft. Fortunate enough really, as we can then change our mind and put it back on the shelf, without leaving the store with it without paying for it, and therefore no offence of theft. So her approach of "you can't do that" appears to me to be wrong, according to Theft Act law. She is - as not ususual for mere mortal shop staff who have no understanding of the factual or legal background - therefore incorrect as a matter of fact and law.:p:rotfl::rotfl: (to her!) Love it when I'm correct yet again:rotfl::rotfl:.

As you pointed out, she could have reduced the one you'd got and thus saved the store the money it cost on it once she instead decided to throw it away. :think:Did she have legal authority from the company she works for in order to throw away some goods? Would S, knowing the facts of the situation, have consented to their employee destroying otherwise saleable stock? Or, if not, was she thereby going outside of her delegated authority and committing an offence of theft by herself appropriating the item and destroying it, as well as criminal damage? Maybe she honestly believed there was some consent (whether or not there was) and therefore perhaps she would have a defence to a charge of theft - I do not know the detailed law off hand here though - and :think:what about criminal damage? FC, and not me, now has to get the law books out:rotfl:.
