    5. Copper Deterrents

Snails and slugs cannot tolerate copper; it gives them a slight electrical shock on contact. Knowing this is great, but keep in mind that it creates a barrier only. It won't kill them, it will only keep them out of an area that doesn't already have a problem.

This can be very helpful for raised beds, trees, containers, flower pots, and other areas in your yard or garden.

After you have applied the copper to the desired area, finish by bending the exposed vertical strands outward. (see pictures to the right)

Note: This works only for slugs if the copper strip or mesh is wide enough so that slugs can't raise their bodies over it. The majority of copper stripping sold in garden shops for this purpose is not wide enough to create an effective barrier, which would need to be 6 to 8 inches (15 to 20cm) wide, or the largest most destructive slugs will hump right over it without touching the copper. If need be, simply put down a double layer of banding to make sure it is wide enough.

I had a home assessment done last May, and nothing came of it because the funding dried up :(

This time around they are not saying yet who will qualify for funding. As we will find this information out in November, which is just around the corner, perhaps you can hold off both with the assessment and the combi until November to see if you will be one of the lucky ones?

Afternoon all. I believe the home assessments are valid for 2 years so you'll be able to use it for the new funding - but get in quickly. :)
    Hope is not a strategy.

I am maxed out on stress at the moment. :o

Weather warnings for Poole and Dorset winds 50/60 mph. Just had almighty downpour with gusts, I am so worried about the awning over the caravan but nothing I can do. I can't lift anything in it back that is over there because of my back. :(

I am so worried it is going to collapse as last time we went over a pool water had been sitting there not sure how long and the poles were bent so guessing they are already weakened.

I'm not bothered too much about the awning itself as it was secondhand to us and person previous had it by a river so was past it's best, bit mouldy in places. It's all the stuff we took to store over there while garage was being built. Mr TS just ran out of time between garage being finished and going away. :( I am a bit  with him because I think he made time for things that could have waited. :o

It will be too late sunday when he is back overnight and he is off again first thing Monday morning. :(:(

    Not sure what to do......

Tinyshoes wished I lived closer I would go with you and sort everything out even if it meant my shoulder hurting again :). But seeing I don't live near you I will pray everything is going to be ok and the weather calms down.

    (((X)))

Aww thankyou that's sweet of you tweets. :A

I wouldn't let you though, it's mostly pretty heavy stuff. Some of it is big and I wouldn't get it in my car anyway. I need a man with a van. :D

I am debating giving OH's mate a ring that helped him over there with it. Trouble is I don't think Mr TS has left room for anything in the garage end as he filled it with stuff that should have gone in his workshop while he painted the floor of that. That at the moment is sitting empty I am sure the floor has "cured" by now. ;)

I am hoping might be bit of sun tomorrow then I can sort the garage end out make a bit of room, I tell you C4 hoarders has nothing on me and Mr TS between us. :o:o:o

My slugs get in from the gas pipe leading to my cooker, nothing I can do but I do put down some crushed egg shells which keeps them at bay for a couple of days but I can not stand having my floors littered, so I have gone to picking them up with kitchen paper and putting them at the bottom of the garden

I pick them up with kitchen paper and sling them through the back door still on the paper.

My cooker is electric I cant put crushed egg shells down because Poppy sleeps in the kitchen when I am out . I am glad they don't appear in the daylight.

    I'm always in a dilemma bubbs. :o

I think I live off being stressed. :rotfl:

I can't ask Mr TS's family as they are all off on holibobs to Florida anyday if not already. They got their awning down back in August and didn't bother putting it up again (they moved from one part of the site to another. Lesson learned for me I think need to plan it earlier next year. :o

Trouble is Mr TS has his fingers in so many pots and always trys to fit too much in, I wouldn't be so worried if he wasn't away sooo long. I would be dragging him out there no matter what. ;)
