has anyone had root canal done, had a bad toothache all week saw the dentist friday and going back tuesday have to decide on root canal or extraction,:eek: I am a big wuss and hate the dentist have heard horror stories about root canal so not sure what to do . its a back tooth and had a bad filling :( so was wondering if anyone had any experience thanks xx

I had a root canal but got an infection in there shortly afterwards, had an abscess  and had to have an extraction in the end

The abscess was much much much worse than the actual root canal itself iykwim

None of them are. The rule is quite clear here.

Reading every thread is not always possible but when they are spotted they are removed (and posters reported if they persist) I am just a volunteer and although I spend inordinate amounts of time on here to try and keep up, I can't be on here 24/7.

    Morning rhosy:)

Perhaps I've just been extremely lucky but I've never had any issues with my dentist. Any procedures have always been pain free including root canal fillings. There shouldn't be any reason really to feel anything if you are numbed properly. Is it worth having a word with your dentist about your fears. I feel a tooth should always be saved if possible :)

I've had root canals a couple of times. It'll save the tooth for quite a while but you may eventually need a crown. But I don't fanbcy dentures and can't afford implants so it was a no-brainer for me.

First root canal was due to a root infection that felt like I had silver paper stuck to it 24:7. The treatment didn't hurt a bit but was time-consuming. The dentist who did it (don't think I'm allowed to name names) had an extremely dentally-appropriate name, and had fixed one of Magnus Pyke's teeth (according to Magnus's biography).

For those ELITE who aren't as year-enriched as me, Magnus Pyke was a TV Science populariser and played the psychoanalyst in this vid:
