Insurance broker bullying me into fronting

Hi,
I recently got a car insurance quote via confused for myself and my wife (we share a car and im the main driver), the best price being with right choice insurance brokers (RCIB). My wife previously had her license revoked with no ban for an In10, she thought she had driving other cars while hers was in for servicing but it turns out that didn apply because of her age of 24 at the time, she also hadn't had her license for 2 years yet so 6 points was an automatic revocation. This was all put on the quote so we accepted.
Shortly after receiving the confirmation email I got a call from them saying that the underwriters weren't happy that she'd got less years on her newly regained license (18 months), thsn my 3 years of NCD and so she should be the main driver. I explained that she'd then be fronting and they said she had to be the main driver and it would cost me more.
After much arguing they agreed to keep me as the main driver but downgrading my cover for the same cost. I argued that they'd already took my card payment online and should honour our agreement though I eventually relented and figured I'd just complain to resolve later.
I tried to do this today and they again said I was fronting because she's the higher risk and so should be the main driver. I got passed around a bit each claiming to be a manager until I got a call back from the original person (with the levels of management I went up, my original call must have been from the ceo on an outbound sales call!
He then threatene to report to the insurer that I was fronting and we didn't declare that she had her license revoked (we did), though they knew this originally and they let me proceed anyway.
Theyre threatening to cancel my insurance and I'm certain what they're doing is illegal.
Any ideas?
Hope this is in the right forum
Thanks,
Dave

Apologies for all the typos, I thought my tablet was automatically correcting. I've also not received an insurance certificate or any paperwork but they have taken the funds, the original call was 3 weeks ago.0

I think you need a better broker!
The basic fact that between you, you have only one car and you are the main driver, should mean that you can be insured as the main driver.
We have had similar headaches. We own 3 cars, mine (me as main driver), OH's (with him as main driver) and car 3. Car 3 is driven by my elder son (who has moved out) occasionally, by my younger son (at uni away during term time) very occasionally, me (only when it needs petrol) and OH when it needs a run or he thinks he will need to park in a car park with small places or it is snowing (his main car is RWD). In actuality my OH should be the main driver of car 3; we have been told that this would be considered fronting if either of the boys had a claim - just because OH has another car as his main car.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages, student & coronavirus Boards, money saving boards. Put your complaint in writing. Their ts + cs will set out their complaints procedure. Then you can escalate it to the FOS if you are unhappy with their reply at no cost to you.
Their argument regarding NCD doesn't add up. Named drivers NCD is not (normally) taken into account.
Ask them why they are threatening to cancel your policy unless you lie about who is the main driver and take it from their reply.
(Check on askmid that your car is currently insured)0 -
I did point that out but they're not having any of it. It also concerns me because if I did go along with it and have to claim, surely my insurance is void.
How many others have they done this to?0 -
Fronting is by putting a low risk driver as the main driver when in reality a high risk driver is.
It sounds more like they think you are fronting hence wanting to switch so that the high risk driver is defined as the main driver, arguable the reverse of fronting in your circumstances.
Assuming its a proper broker you are dealing with get them to confirm that this is their advise in your situation and keep hold of that email/ letter and do what they say. If there are problems then you have evidence from an FCA authorised body that you were instructed to do this and if the advise is wrong their PI cover would kick in0 -
Given the standard of service / advice you've received and the fact that you haven't received a certificate of motor insurance, I'd have a cursory check here http://www.askmid.co.uk/ to check that you're still covered. Just in case.....0

Just writing on here to make people aware of another person having the exact same issue with RIGHT CHOICE INSURANCE BROKERS.
Basically I searched on compare the market for cheapest insurance quotes, to which RCIB came up the cheapest. It was offering me an insurance policy of £160.91 deposit and £70.11 x8 instalments. So I continued on to which I was directed through to the insurers website where I was to confirm that I wanted to select this policy. When I did this a page came up informing me that there is a cooling off period of 14 days however you will still incur a charge depending on how long it takes for you to cancel the premium for cancellation would increase. Anyway so I confirmed and then once I had paid my deposit I was told that was all to be confirmed and the policy was not set in stone until they called me and checked over my details. Subsequently I received a call from a guy from their sales team who told me that because I hadn't entered a purchase date in for the car I was insuring that the insurance premium was to increase to £99 adding at least another £300 to my policy a year. He said that they don't usually do this but as I made a mistake they wouldn't charge me any more of a deposit... As I am a new driver only been driving 18 months and never previously set up my insurance as my mum did it for me I didn't understand how the quote could have changed this much by not putting in the purchase date of the car. (I didn't enter this as I hadn't bought the car yet I was due to buy it 3 days later and had only put a deposit down on it). The chap asked me if I still wanted to go ahead and because of previously reading online that I would incur a cancellation charge I thought well sod it I have no choice but to go ahead now as I really don't want to loose £45 I don't have to cancel the policy. So I went ahead, still feeling confused as to why the price had increased so much. He then asked if I had no claims in which I do but I was using this on my current car and unbeknown to me I couldn't apply it to the car I wanted to insure without taking it off my current car to put it on this policy. So I came off the phone still feeling confused rang my mum who suggested that I needed to ring my current insurance company with my current car which I have the no claims bonus with and get them to remove it from the policy so I could add it to this new one with RCIB. Which I did, and rang right choice back and asked to apply it to the policy, which they did however they were still expecting me to pay £87 a month with was still higher than what I had originally been quoted. Getting more and more confused I rang my mum back to say how I couldn't understand how I had agreed to a price via compare the market and agreed the terms and conditions for THAT price that how could it change once they called me. I felt that they were very manipulating and took the fact that I am young with little experience of setting up insurance (which I had said to the man setting it up) for granted! They did not do there job properly in my opinion as they should have made sure I understood before proceeding. Anyway... Feeling like I had been completely ripped off I rang them back and asked to alter my quote to what I had been given online they refused to do this.. After passing the phone from one sales person to another and being on hold many times and literally being thrown back and fourth between people who didn't seem to have a clue what they was doing and were totally argumentative and not at all understanding I asked for it to be cancelled. (By this time we had been on and off the phone for at least 3 hours!!!) They insisted I was to incur a £45 cancellation charge which I thought was disgusting as the policy wasn't even due to start until 3 days later!!! It hadn't even been set up yet. Anyway so it was left as I was to be deducted £45 from my deposit. I went on google and looked up the company and was shocked to see all these posts about the same company, some from years ago! So I just wanted to post my recent experience with them to earn everyone to STAY CLEAR OF THIS COMPANY!!! I rang the FSA and they told me that I should ring the FCO to see if what they are doing is legal so I will proceed with that Monday....0
