I think most people were desperate to get labour off the 'throne'.

I am by no means a political expert and normally have to drag myself away from apathy when it comes to elections. But my opinion is that there are no major differences between any of the main parties (Labour/Tory/LibDem) and having lived through Labour and Tory governments as well as the current coalition I can't say I've seen anything to make me think otherwise. They may have different ideas on detail but in general it's all the same.
I'm so disilusioned (sp?) by it all.

The issue last general election and probably at the last one is the turnout - what can people expect if they don't bother to vote? I was really impressed by how high the turnout was yesterday, it hasn't been that high since 1951.

That's when everyone's vote counts the most...we have a hard-fought right to vote - if we really want to live in a democratic country we must use that vote. Otherwise we are handing control to those who have no grasp on the real day-to-day problems experienced by the average citizen who works / has worked for a living.

Yes but when you don't agree that any party will handle the country well which party do you choose?

I started this off, Alex Salmond is a bully. Apathy in Scotland re voting is what got him elected in the first place. Had the yes vote won, I wonder how long it would have been before Scotland was bankrupt and us with them, it does not bear thinking about.

How long is it going to be before the yes voters start intimidating or worse those who voted No!!

Sorry this is not a political arena so I will shuffle off. I am sorry if some people do not agree with me but I have a right to my own opinion.

As a side note my husband plays bowls and many of his bowling pals are Scots, they all share my opinion and have said so. They were not allowed to vote as 'they do not live in Scotland' They had to come to England to find jobs as did my husband.

I believe I have voted in every election I have been eligible for (won't say 100% as my memory isn't that good!) and my choice has been SNP. My apathy lies with the main Westminster parties. My hope was that an independent Scotland would be able to make decisions more relevant to it's people. Alex Salmond may not be my first choice of person in the role but I also know that a yes vote yesterday was NOT a vote for him. If the yes had won there would have been a general election which I feel Labour would have won rather than SNP.

I'm somewhat taken aback by comments about Scotland going bankrupt as if it was an inevitibility, no one could know for certain without the company going independent. As for intimidation of the opposition, there is always a minority who act and get headlines from it but for the majority of people this was a thought out and reasonable campaign.

I'm going to stop now, as you say this is not a political forum.

    Afternoon all,

Overcast here today almost to the point of being misty, still hope to get out to field for some more blackberries, cant think of missing out on best crop in years.

No axe to grind on the Scottish referendum beyond a sense of satisfaction at great turnout....one thing that I have always emphasised to my offspring was that, although they should make up their own minds about who they vote for, they should always vote...the apathetic turnout at elections is a bugbear of mine.....non voters have no right to complain about the elected government......am I correct in thinking that it is illegal not to vote in Australia?

OH has decided that he needs some coal as he is cold, so off we go on a fuel buying event.....I would prefer logs to coal but I wont be paying so I suppose I cant complain.

Brain now fogging over so will just wish you all a good day, filled with peace

  • animated-smileys-babies-038.gifCongratulations on your new grandaughter Hester, best wishes to your DD and hope that they are both doing well xxxx

News of another birth on Tuesday, a new baby elephant arrived at Whipsnade zoo a little boy, he is lovely. Scot (the one with tusks) pushed him in the pool and the elephants got him out before the keepers could get there. He bullied Max as well, jealous little blighter!

We are going up on Sunday for the elephantastic weekend and to see if they have achieved the 30,000 origami elephants that they need, the record at the moment stands at 1,500. They have been sent in from all around the world :D I am so glad that we became members, the cost has already paid for itself.

Mouth is still sore and I am still on mush which is getting really boring.

No washing today as I got most of it done yesterday thankfully.
I slept right through the storms last night, I heard the rain as I went to bed then I zonked out animated-smileys-sleeping-034.gif

Right I must go and prepare another 2.5kgs of runner beans for the freezer that I got from the garden this morning, plus a huge courgette that I will stuff tonight and my first butternut squash :jIt needs a bit more ripening so I have put it on the windowsill in the kitchen, there are another three that are nearly ripe so I am watching that the slugs don't get to them.

  • Good Afternoon everyone, sorry I'm so late posting today but the computer wouldn't talk to me at all this morning and it's taken He Who Knows all day to fix it!!!

HESTER how wonderful, another new little person in the world, hope DD isn't to tired after all her hard work and welcome to the world little one.

We had thunderstorms for a lot of the day yesterday and the lurcha hates them, and then at 11 last night we had really heavy rain just after we'd gone up to bed so I spent the best part of the night on the sofa with the poor old lad pacing and panting in circles from the front to the back of the house. He finally settled at 5.30 this morning so I'm feeling a bit jaded but have just come back from a lovely walk in the sun across the common and through the woods, really looking like the start of autumn out there but the sun was so hot and with no wind it felt more like high summer. Looking forward to an early night tonight and a bit more sleep, take care of yourselves, Lyn xxx.
