  • Our airing cupboard stays warm as the tank slowly loses heat. Sure its not that?!

If you have a gas boiler, why are you even using the immersion heater? It costs about 300% more than using gas to heat your hot water.

    He doesn't even know he's using a friuggin immersion heater,but I guess that's why we are here:A:A:A

Make a monthly recording or your meters and see if that relates to your bills. As you can see on another part of this forum quite often what your energy usage has no relation to your DD's.

What hours does the guy work, not home yet?
  • Hi everyone, I m back

It was the immersion heater! to say I am mortified would be an understatement. I am fully aware of how expensive an immersion heater is, I have only ever used them in an 'emergency' in the past.

Fact is, it was switched on when we moved in to the flat during winter when we were using the gas heating. We therefore expected the airing cupboard to be warm.

It was only in spring when we stopped using heating and the airing cupboard remained hot that we thought there was something wrong. I should obviously have figured this out months ago but summer has been so busy on top of trying to do up the flat, I simply haven't given it enough thought.

I'm a pretty practical person too, and i cant believe i didn't think of this - it's so obvious in hindsight! like i said mortified....

Anyway, you guys are legends, thanks so much for your help, you've saved me ££££££'s

Glad to hear you've got to the bottom of it!
  • Glad you found the cause !

A little tip - in my house the switch for the immersion is "remote", in that it's in the kitchen next to the heating programmer. Great idea, except that it's above a work surface, so can get accidentally knocked "on" if there's stuff on the work surface next to it.

My highly elaborate and expensive solution - a strip of bright red electrical tape over the switch. Keeps it locked in the "off" position, reminds you that the switch is there, and simple to remove if you ever do want to use it :D

Then simply thank the people who gave you the correct answer, one of whom was ridiculed by a nerd in the process.:A:A
