Life network down after collapse phones4U

Hi All, i have a problem with my phone which is on a life contract through phones4u.

I have noticed that my phone is now unable to make or receive calls because it can't connect to the network. I have tried connecting to another network, but that doesn't work either.

I have called Life and they have told me that they will need to send me out a new sim card and that this will take anything up to 10 working days to get here. Which basically means that I will be without a phone for 2 weeks.

I have a suspicion that they are stalling me while they are waiting for news on who will take over the network and who will be the new service provider.

Is anyone else having problems with their phones on a Life network contract?

Obviously being without a mobile phone for this long is unacceptable as a self employed person. Is there any way I can cancel my contract because of no service? Or what are my options?

Thanks in advance

Did you take this out as a business contract or a personal contract, if you have a consumer contract for business user you may find it difficult to make any claim for loss unless you also took out (or already had) consequential loss insurance.

Whilst its not what you want to know you may need to find out what is really happening before you cancel the contract to avoid being hit by fees for early termination. I'd suggest you put it in writing to the administrators, giving them 7 to 14 days to rectify the situation, which puts you in a better position later on, as you have at least given them notice of the fault and a time to resolve it.

Thanks for the replies so far.

It is taken out as a personal contract as I have only just started up 8 months ago and I didn't want to run a personal and a business phone at the same time.

I guess I'll need to see if I can dig out the contract and go through the fine print, but I guess that they will have me and others over a barrel because of the bankruptcy situation and the appointment of Price waterhouse as liquidators.

It would be interesting to see how many people are in a similar situation without a signal.
  • Can you get them to call forward to another number? ie get a PAYG SIM as a temp fix

P4U are neither bankrupt nor in liquidation.

They are under administration, which is a completely different thing.

They are still taking my money but are not providing the service that I am paying for.

I have been on the phone to their customer support again today for over an hour and I am getting the same run around telling me that they can't do anything, that I can't cancel, but that they can't restore my service till they get me a new sim card which will take 2 weeks.

    It is disgusting!

To let callers know you are not receiving phone calls, can you leave something on your voicemail to let callers know you are unreachable, and they should leave a voicemail and you will contact them at your earliest opportunity?

Short term the contract is still in force and yes you have to pay, although you can try and get a credit for lack of the service.
