When I've wanted fences improving I've either paid it all my self as my neighbour can't afford it, and I don't want to embarrass him by asking, or I've gone halves where they could. I'd certainly never sit there and just expect somebody else to fix the fence for my benefit without me having to pay a penny. If its my boundary, I'll make it happen.

Don't forget if your dogs push the fence down and menace the children you would end up in court.

    it is definitly his fence.

if i could afford to replace it i would (even though i don't think i should have to)

Its his children that will come into my garden too, not just my dogs entering his garden

he is a builder by trade (although not been working for the last at least 2 years) so i know he is more than capeable of repairing/replacing himself. Its just frustrating that he hasn't (if it was a money thing for him, then i think that the 2 take aways they have delivered every week could surely cover the cost if they were to go without them)

i don't mind what kind of fence it is as long as it keeps the children out and dogs in.

But, as has been pointed out, even if there was a requirement for him to 'maintain' that fence, he would be complying with that requirement if he put up posts with a wire strung between them.

So you need to talk; you said you'd approached him several times but didn't say what he'd agreed. Maybe if you offered to contribute, he would put up a fence that would keep dogs/kids separate?

You are seriously missing the point. You as a dog owner have a significant responsibility to ensure that your dogs don't cause harm to others. It is your responsibility to have a fence to keep your dogs in.
Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.
  • Hi, must be frustrating if you do see it as his responsibility and he will not do it however I was just wondering if the fence is between your two gardens how do you know its 'his' fence?

If you put a fence up, it will be your fence.

You cant help lazy , careless filth , as your neighbour seems to be , some people just dont care , and you cant change that

Have you not got access to any cheap old panels you can whack in yourself ?
Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.

Your neighbour can tell his kids to stay out of your garden - can you do the same with your dogs?

Or arrogant dog owners who believe its somebody else's job to prevent their dog straying and causing a possible danger as the OP seems to be.
