damn right, he was taking advantage of an elderly couple to get extra commission. When you go from £53 per month to £12 with no major differences, you tell me how that's acceptable.

Again, your misinformation is getting in the way. They didnt earn commission on household insurance.

There is no way a £53pm policy is comparable to a £12. Something has been left off. House insurance has fallen in price dramatically over recent years but that difference indicates something along the lines of a fully comp policy being cut down to standard cover only. Looking at your list. Personal Possessions seems most likely (as that is something that can often double the premium)

It usually pays not to just take the cheapest price when it comes to insurance. It will be cheap for a reason.

In the price comparison obsessed society we live in there are plenty of 'cheap' offerings that seem good value. Sadly it is only in the event of a claim that the true worth of these policies comes to light.

In such a situation I wouldn't be surprised if, following the visit from the loss adjuster, that another complaint would be winging its way to FOS about the adequacy of the cover under the new policy.

The property value and the rebuild cost are not related.

The rebuild cost for a property worth £240,000 could be higher, or lower depending on the type of property, its age and construction method.
And indeed the location. When I bought my first home, the rebuilding cost was about two thirds of what I paid for it - but an identical property in the north would have only cost about a third as much, but cost almost exactly the same to rebuild.

It can also be affected by claims experience. When I bought my current home, the lender's block policy was significantly cheaper than I could get it at staff rates from the insurance company I worked for at the time.

Yet the block policy was underwritten by my employer.

Food is more expensive in Waitrose than Asda, it doesnt mean I have been mis-sold my eggs!
We got some really nice eggs from a table at the end of a drive in Gosforth, Cumbria last month. £1 into the honesty box for half a dozen.

One was very large and another very small - but then it is right next to Sellafield:rotfl:
