I can seen where the confusion came from now.Didn't change the lamps - just the bulbs.

Right, tomorrow I'm going to buy other lamp bulbs and removed the two bedside ones.Final update...bought 'old fashioned' spiral energy saving bulbs and both radios and bedside lamps now work at the same time.

I'm the one confused now. Said I was going to buy lamp bulbs and did so. Perhaps you're being technical? Said I was a laywoman. New bulbs are great BTW.
Checked the carton...the bulbs are called bulbs on the description and instructions.0
