Weird electrical problem

Options
Just after a little electrical advice please.

When my bedside lamp and radio alarm clock are plugged into a double wall socket (one each, no power strip) the radio doesn't work when the lamp is switched on. It's most peculiar indeed. All things work together if I move the radio to the other side of the bed, however I don't really want them on different sides. That may start a small domestic and a great deal of aggravation.

These sockets were all only installed in February/March this year.

I'd appreciate some advice about this. Can't be normal!

Thanks.

Is it a switched double socket or non switched.

    try two lamps

try a strip in each socket with both items in the strip

    Switched.

    Will do.

    Do you mean two strips?

    Thanks for the response.

Did two lamps and all OK.

Did two radio clocks. No problem.

Must be the metal lamp interference though I've had these two items for about five years and in the previous house there wasn't a problem.

    Still weird.

Could be a fault with the wiring IN the socket itself (not the electrical cabling the electrician fed into it)

hmmm ignore just saw your other post
  • one trip tried twice, might be worth having a 3rd item.

Have you tried just swapping which socket the items are in.is it using the socket switches that cause the problem

if they both work in another double
  • OK cross post,

It's the probably clock radio if both lamps work.

when you say not work do you mean nothing(now sign of power) or just the radio

    link to the clock radio.

stick he lamp on a strip and move around

    Thanks for all the suggestions,

If I have the radio switched on and then turn on the lamp the radio goes off - blank, nothing. Sometimes, and only sometimes, I get 'station off air' message but not usually. Switch the lamp off again and the radio starts again. I know it's weird.

The idea of the socket being wonky is good though why it would only affect the radio/lamp combo is still odd.

I've asked the company which installed the electrics to have a look so will chase them up now.

I'm off to try all the other combinations suggested here. Busy afternoon for me then!
  • Should not take too long,

Can you get the behaviour at any other location another double socket or on a strip.
