    I have worked every shift pattern imaginable in the last 26 years with no discernible negative effects.

    Maybe shift work just doesn't suit you?

    Not that it will help, but yes I am another person that managed on 12 hour shifts, on my own, in winter.

    Yes it was hard, we (and I think illegally) used to do overtime on top of it. I basically slept showered and worked those weeks, and nothing else.

    When I couldn't do anymore I changed jobs.....

    No I appatently looked tired, but such observations can be pretty subjective
