Not sure if it makes any difference, but Amazon (the web site owner) is based in Luxembourg and is a separate company.
Amazon's UK business is called Amazon.co.uk Limited
even though it does not own or operate the website of the same name.

The UK business operates Amazon's British warehouses, buying teams and other functions. It sells these services to sister Amazon companies overseas, mainly Amazon EU Sarl, the European headquarters company

^^ This, any thing you get from Amazon will be a good will jesture, If you want to take legal action then it would have to be in Luxembourgh
  • The item was bought from amazon but the claim would be with the manufacturer of the item. I had a customer once that bought a dress and the dye ran and went onto lots of items and we as the retailer had to pass it to the manufacturer to investigate, as any claim would be with them and in the end they paid the compensation. Amazon simply supplied the product so if there is a claim should the manufacturer not be contacted by either you or amazon?

Well, that depends. If Amazon imported the item, they could be liable.

"Amazon simply supplied the product", and by supplying it they are the ones that the OP has the contract with and they are the ones that are liable for the goods that they supply.

Amazon have the right to ask the manufacturer to look into the matter but this doesn't in any way diminish their legal obligations towards the OP.

There is a past discussion on Amazon and UK law here:

There is also a post on a forum here from someone who has taken Amazon to UK small claims court, so it must be possible.
