Hi
has anyone heard of this company?
Just got a letter saying they owe me £3000 from mis-sold PPI on a old mortgage. Letter goes into details about dates, mortgage company name etc, so im thinking its genuine.
Any views ?

P.S they claim to be the actual company that administered the PPI. They may well be, but I cant remember what I did yesterday, let alone 8 years ago lol.0

small update
decided to ring and see what it was all about.
turns out I was mis-sold PPI to the tune of £3000
Mortgage company no longer exists (assume it went bust)
To cut a long story short, they want a £195 fee for a consultant to come to my home to do all the paperwork, and the solicitors will want 30% of the £3000.
Does this sound fair to anyone, or am i getting screwed over?0 -
what should I do? try and claim directly myself? Mayfair Mortgages apparently went bust, so I dont know what to do.0

It is probably likely that the director of Mayfair Mortgage has sold your details on to claims management company.
As for the fee, it free to make a PPI complaint.0 -

I've just received a letter like this myself, virtually the same info but with slightly less amount payable. When he was explaining it to me he said that the only way would not be able to claim the money back was if we'd actually made a claim on the policy. The thing is the original company has not existed since 2009 so how would they be able find out if we had actually claimed?... Any help would be really appreciated as I could really use this refund.0

Couple of points just out of curiosity. If the FCA (or FSA presumably in 2010) has stated that the policies were mis-sold, then don't they usually get the banks / brokers themselves to contact the customers and make and offers of redress directly?
Furthermore, if the FCA has stated that the policies were mis-sold, then surely it would be the case that a simple letter to the brokers in question / FSCS / FOS confirming the details would be required, these would presumably be uncontested and the redress amounts would be payable. Why then would a solicitor need to be involved charging 30% to submit these. And would there not be an option to send over the paperwork to the clients to allow them complete themselves??0
