Just to add my recent experience to this arguement.
In the last six months I have had a mortgage protection policy refunded using Commitments, they also advised me that we may have been mis sold our mortgage, they arranged to have one of their reps call out to fill in the paperwork. They guy called out a few days later and all the paperwork was filled in, I waited a month or so and then rang to get an estimate to how long it would all take, we where told it would take upto three months and we should call back in January.
Today I decided to call them again (it's now been three months) to get an update, the lady I spoke to informed me that they'd not been able to do anything with the paperwork as the rep that called out was new to the company at the time and had made a 'mess' of the paperwork. They also told me that they were missing a digit from my phone number and as such where unable to ring me, they didn't explain why they'd not bothered to write to me in the preceding three months. As such the paperwork had sat untouched for three months rather than being processed. After explaining why I was so upset at three months wasted the lady explained that she would move me to the front of the queue and that she would get another rep out today to do the paperwork correctly. The rep arrived late, and then proceeded to explain that even though the cockup was their's I should forget it and move on, he also then explained that if I still wanted to move on with the claim that I should now be forking out £295 plus vat.. this fee was never mentioned the first time, this was besides the 30% fee they also wanted for completing any claim.
After arguing my point the agent then got on the phone with his manageer and agreed to drop the fee to £95+vat.
I was so disapointed with this company, they've done nothing but contradict one another since I first put in the request. If I can find another company to handle the miss selling then I will go with them instead, I wouldn't trust these to sit the right way on a toilet.0 -

You really shouldn't have employed any company in the first place, the complaint process is simple and free.
Too late now, of course.0 -
It's not a PPI claim, it's the miss selling of a mortgage. Also being as their rep made a mess of the original documents I would presume (being as they wanted to fill them out again) that any contract with them would be void or useless. Can I actually sort this mis selling out myself?0

I suggest you put in a complaint against them and demand ALL your money back.0 -
Commitments Protection Limited's directors previously ran 2nd Mortgages. You can easily search Companies House records for 2nd Mortgages limited and cross-check these details. As common directors of a the companies, in my view, their behaviour constitutes a breach of the FCA's code regarding eithics and integrity. They marketed their own branded SPMPPI policy via a network of brokers. The ownership of this database however, does not grant them common marketing rights. In any event, any such action would be deemed a conflict of interests. Please do not part with any money to pursue your claim as this can be done directly via the FSCS.0

Just did a quick search for commitments which brought me here, I had a meeting today with one of their representatives. I previously used the company before for a PPI claim, but approx 6 months ago I had somebody come out to explain I could have been mis sold my mortgage, its a new thing where they can claim compensation for this, as I was self employed/self cert at the time and didnt have to show any wage slips or books to prove I could make the repayments which were interest only I was an ideal candidate, the expected compensation is apparently £5,000 to £50,000
I had to pay £354 admin fee 6 months ago to start off a 'first stage' where they would search for details of the mortgage broker company I used and other relevant information, if they found the required info I would be called back to say its all good and the claim can go through which they did a couple of days ago.
The rep came out today and asked if I wanted him to go through everything again as people usually forget, I said no I remember everything that was said and that was happening, but then he said I had to pay another £354 "second stage admin fee" which I wasnt expecting, I told him I hadnt been told about this he blamed the previous guy for not telling me, I was assured there would be no more payments, I asked if he could give me a copy of paperwork where it would say I was guaranteed a proposed £5000 compensation and he said they cant guarantee anything as it all comes down to a court type decision.
Apparently if the company which sold me my mortgage 8 years ago is still trading in their own name or a different name using the same database of customers/lenders then I would get 100% of the claim, if not I would have to pay 30% to a solicitor (Middletons)
I paid with my credit card and had a receipt emailed, so if nothing happens I suppose I could spend hours/days/weeks claiming my money back?
What are the chances? Is it a fly-by-night scam? I feel conned to be honest....0 -
Think about it. A figure of between £5K and £50K is very vague.
Having got £354 out of you six months ago, they ask for another £354 now. It sounds like they fleeced you once and can now do it again.
However, if you are unhappy with this, you can complain to the business and, if necessary, to the Legal Ombudsman.0 -
