Warranty on used range rover?

Options
Hi,

I'm buying a used range rover 08 reg 3.6 TD Vogue from a company today. They are recommending me a warranty of £399 per year that covers the car for £1000 for each repair done in that year. And they are selling that warranty for 3 years.

Is the £1200 justifiable cost for a car with this high specs?

Thanks
T

    What are the exclusions?

Possibly virtually everything eg a clutch will not covered.

Does it cover any known potential faults?

Probably not. So you need to read the policy with a fine tooth comb and do some research into the warranty.

I would save the money and find a good independent mechanic.

the cost of repairs are likely to be high on your new car so if you do suffer problems they will be expensive to put right

is it worth spending £1200 on an independant warranty? i am not sure

many of the warranty companies will use a wear and tear clause to get out of paying a claim say the part has worn out rather than failed due to a fault

i would google the company that provides the warranty and then decide on the result you find from people that have tried to make a claim from them
  • Look at the warranty exclusions and then look at the price of jobs on a Range Rover.

Most used car warranties are basically useless anyway.

Have you researched the company that you are buying it from?

Can you get a manual Range Rover? ;)

I agree with you though. Also Land Rover specialists are fairly common, depending on where you live. I'd save the money too.

£1000 per claim is peanuts on a car like you're buying. You could easily see a £2,000 - £3,000 bill for a major fault.

I'd be wary. Most of these warranties have a world of exclusions hidden in the small text - also the dealer is going to be making money out of these warranties, so you're probably buying a £250 warranty with a dealer markup.

Also, why isnt the dealer putting a warranty on it?

Who cares when it's the butler that will drive it ;)

what difference does it make ? do automatic gear boxes not have a clutch then?
  • The £1200 cost to you will get you something worth about £300/400 after the dealer takes his cut.

If you must have a warranty (I am of the opinion that you should keep the £1200 cost in your own bank and put it towards repairs as and when needed), then at least use Google and search out one that gives you best value for money instead of just taking what is offered.

This exactly why I don't have a LandRover any more.

I wouldn't run such a car without an extended manufacturer's warranty.

You can enquire yourself from LandRover - but if the service history is outwith the network it's going to be excluded or horrendously high at that age.

Most independent warranties turn out to have countless exclusions - Warranty Direct for example.
