Taxi driver hit my parked car - damage to rear bumper panel
Comments

Hi everyone
Thanks for all the advice! I sent him a text at 11:30 and said that if I didn't hear back by the end of today I would have to call the police.
I wasn't too shocked when he replied within 5 minutes with his name and email address.
I also got another quote for £240 - a bit more expensive, but will see what he says.0 -
He tried to con you into this by telling you that you will lose your NCD. As he is to blame you won't.
And he won't lose his if he reimburses his insurer their costs.
Get in touch with his insurer (use ask mid - free from a smartphone) and see if they have an innocent third party claims department.
Then ask them to deal with your claim. You will be able to use your choice of garage, get a car whilst yours is in dock and all repairs will be done (sometimes with bumpers it turns out there is more damage found once they are removed).
OP's premium will still be affected. I know from personal experience in exactly the same situation.
Would have cost me £200 to fix from my own pocket but has cost more than that in increased premiums now.
Avoid going via or informing insurance if at all possible.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -
They may. But struck when parked doesn't usually cause much of an increase if any.
But the taxi driver lied to the op regarding losing no claim discount were insurance involved.
And doesn't look too keen to wrap this up at a ridiculous low cost to him!
Lied?
Or the taxi driver doesn't fully understand the NCB system, like so many other people!0 -

You failed to answer the question of what the speed limit was on the road you were parked on.
It could be relevant in determining liability share .I do Contracts, all day every day.0 -

Explain to us how the speed limit on the road could make the (absent) driver liable in any way if his car is struck when parked?0 -

It can. If youre parked on a road over 30mph you have to have parking lights on.

Only at night. And we don't even know whether it was on a road, let alone what time of day.0 -

its a fair question to ask, if the circumstances are such, the taxi driver could get arsey about it0
