I can't get a contract on sim only?

I work as a sub contractor for a company who have decided
that if we do not have a mobile contract phone we have to pay
for one of their phones.

Tried today to get a sim only 30 day rolling contract but was
turned down probably due to my credit rating. Going from what
I've been told it's nigh on impossible to get turned down for this
as there is very little risk to the company considering the first
payment was going to be taken in advance.

Can anyone give me any advice on how to get a sim only contract?

Would also be interesting to see if any of the mobile companies
I've seen posting on here would be brave enough to tell me what
credit score I need to have rather than trying and failing again
which will mess up my credit even further! I do realise I need to
improve my credit score but its impossible when nobody will give
you credit.

Don't want to end up paying £45 a month for a company phone so
any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Would PAYG be an option?

I assume company would be calling you of course
Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens

No I'm on PAYG with Giffgaff at the moment but the company are
sick of people not contacting customers or the company when there's an issue then ]using no credit as an excuse as they are getting hit with fines by the companies we work on behalf of.

Basically they've demanded we either prove we have a contract phone
or pay for one of their phones.

Although this was always part of our contract they've never really enforced
    it before!

Have you tried Tesco Mobile? Their capped sim only's are not credit checked AIUI, there is a residency and fraud check, but not a full credit check.

    Thanks I'll give that a try :)
  • You have shebang.net, they say - No credit check on sim only plans.

Or to try some smaller operators, to call them and ask what are the terms for sim only plans. here are some of them : thepeoplesoperator.com, greenmobile.co.uk, thephone.coop, talkmobile.co.uk

    I hope this will help

    Thanks for the replies!

I managed to get a monthly contract with Tesco tonight! Had problems
getting it online as it kept refusing to confirm my card address so I
ended up going to the local store who set it up in minutes :)

I did look at Shebang but it seemed really expensive
for the packages on offer to get the minutes I need for
    work.

    Xmas Saver!
glad you got sorted... was going to suggest EE - my credit rating is shot to the ground, I have defaults, (no ccj's), and on a dmp in c20k, yet o2 upgraded my pay and go to an iphone 5s on contract (£33 pm)and EE gave me a sim only contract - which I'm putting in my daughter phone (capped internet), unlimited texts and 1000 mins calls - thats £9.99 pm - I'd been topping her up £10 pm... I was then offered an ipad at £35 pm... (thou I want one, I said no thanKs)....

May be worth a thought if you need a personal phone x
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx

Perhaps they've never enforced it before because it's completely stupid!

If they have trouble getting people to make work calls at their own expense on payg phones, I expect they'll have trouble getting people to make work calls at their own expense on contract phones.

Does it not occur to them that they might be better off trying to figure out why people don't want to make these calls, and deal with that instead?

Thanks mum2one It was EE that refused me earlier today I only tried them because a friend works for them and couldn't see any problem
with sim only going through! Ah well I've proved him wrong at least :)

Cookie365 It is a completely stupid rule and this lot have a few of them trust me!! :)

On Giffgaff I had 2000 mins for £20 top up per month which I could
prove through my Giffgaff account page but even that wasn't good enough for them!

We think it's just a smart way of getting us to cover their top of the range company mobiles while we pay a fortune for a cheap Nokia phone
as most of my workmates are in the same boat as myself credit wise!

If that was the plan they're going to be disappointed as at least 5 of
them are heading to Tesco tomorrow to do the same as me :)

I'm glad the Tesco suggestion worked, they have some competitive plans as well (and being on O2, you won't see any coverage difference when compared to Giffgaff).
