Commuting Distance

  • I'd struggle with anything outside my immediate area tbh but that's because I have 5 kids at home and am a single parent-2 of the children are too young to walk home from school alone(aged 5 and 4) and the older ones school finishes too late to get there and pick them up so I'm having to limit my jobseeking to the town I live in only, and preferably either near the school or at least on that side of town not driving all the way across(public transport is rubbish here).

My commute is about 95 miles one way via car/train/tube/walk. Takes about 1h50m door-to-desk. I can work or sleep on the 60 minute train journey.

I commute 37 miles each way most of the time, or occasionally to the other office which is 65 miles each way.

The shorter journey usually takes 1hr15 and the longer journey around 1hr45 - both on decent average runs. To put it into perspective; I've done 500 miles in a week and despite the majority of that being motorway, my average speed was 30mph!

I do plan to move to be near to one of the offices at some point, but for now everything about the job is spot on so I don't mind.

Is there anyone who doesn't think that this guy is a complete plonker?:

Not only that he is a danger to others. With the money he spends he could buy a small flat near Watford and still be better off. There's no point talking about 'quality of life' in Wales when you don't even see any of it in the week!

current commute is about 28 miles each way but into a city, so I leave at 0645 to arrive at 0715 even though I dont have to be in anywhere near that early. I leave around 6pm, home for 0645pm typically.

This is the shortest commute I ever had though in 28 years. for several years I did 110 miles round trip
