  • Fbaby..That is exactly like our family and how our child reacts.

My child's elder sibling has no specific talent( not one that we know of yet :)) but has so much determination to do something, that they actually achieve so much just through drive. when in reality they should fail or not do so well.

My son is a talented musician (one of those annoying people who can pick up any instrument and play it) and had all the confidence in the world...until a couple of 'friends' decided to tease him about his drum equipment, hide certain elements of it and constantly picked holes in what he was doing.

He is not against constructive critisicm, in fact he welcomes it as he knows it is a way to improve what he is doing and he cannot bear 'yes' people but what he went through just completly destroyed his confidence and self esteem. He went from a child who didn't mind being at the front of the stage singing or playing the guitar, to one who wanted to hide behind his drum kit at the back.

Luckily, we appear to now be making strides forward in his confidence again, partly because he has a new circle of friends and partly because the main protaganist has left and the ribbing stopped.....he is planning on singing at this years school Christmas concert and would have played piano at the last chamber concert if someone else had not picked the same blooming song!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.
