If you do decide to go for a Henry you may want to consider the industrial version. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B0001OHI4G/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new

It has a slightly bigger base (more stable, but takes up slightly more room when stored), a longer power lead and, when I bought it, cheaper than the normal domestic model.

Also if you're tempted by the 'pet hair' version, the only difference I can see, apart from the price, is the additional brush. This can be bought separately much cheaper. http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B005O9R9H4/ref=ox_ya_os_product_refresh_T1

Upright or cylinder though? Your budget is far too low to get a decent machine new. Recon only at that price.

I know, its not me buying though, its the parent who wont pay more than £120, she saw a sainsburys own make for £40 I think.

Shes not sure about an upright.

No pets and its just used on carpet.

But T £40 it will be of a load build quality, poor suction, underpowered motor etc.

1438 5* reviews, they must be useless.

I didnt say they are useless i said they are hard work. For carpets your better off with a upright vacuum cleaner. Its a fact upright vacum cleaners are better for carpets.
The cleaner in the office was for ever tugging the Henry along and it was always hitting her ankles and try to use the Henry to do carpets was hard work.I would only want one to clean the garage floor or the car.

Yep I know that, I would have told her the same if she really considered it, had no energy rating etc on the box so didnt buy it.
