My elderly neighbour was blaming my cat for doing his business on her lawn. Cats bury their mess, not leave it in full view (an instinct thing to deter predators).
    .

    What utter utter Carp!!!!.

They never cover up their 'mess', they just leave it and go!

I suppose you believe in father christmas too!!!!

I have a crack team of experts on hand to deal with any cat trespassing problems, we never see a mogser in our carden and they will work for treats, ie. cold hotdogs and short dated scotch eggs.

  • After a year of procrastination I've managed to up do my front garden. Since then my neighbours cat has been using as a toilet. The neighbour's cat keeps digging into my lawn, (text removed by MSE forum Team) on my newly planted plants and even doing on top of the exposed weed membrane. I've spoken to the neighbour and her partner and frankly they don't care. The most sympathetic response I've had was "but it's a cat we can't keep her inside all the time". I'm sick off searching for cat (text removed by MSE Forum Team) from my front garden on a daily basis and clearing before I let my kids out. They don't have a cat flap and certainly the cat isn't litter trained. The cat's outside most of the day and even sometimes throughout the night.

I will ask them to remove the cat deposits from my garden from now on and if they don't....

I've tried orange peel, coffee etc but no luck. It's not my duty to clear other people's pets poop.

What are my options next, how could I tackle it. Can I scoop the deposits and place it on my neighbours front door without being accused of trespassing?
After trying chicken wire, spraying with water, fences...i think the answer has been found...finally!!! Place netting over the garden and sprinkle small amount of patchouli oil all over it. Have not had a cat pooping in garden since. In fact, they will not go NEAR it!

How about this great invention...The Turd Burgler. It's supposed to be for dog poo but I think it could work equally well with cat and fox poo.

I'm sorry but this 'cats always burying their poo thing' is a myth round here - they brazenly defecate on the tarmac footpaths giving me evil looks as they do so as if I'm the one being vile.

It depends on the cats social status. Dominant cats dont bury their poo because as I have said before they use it as a territory marker. However I think you are anthropomorphising the cats a bit too much they dont do it to annoy you and it isnt vile at least not anymore than the other thousands of animals that poo in your garden.

Rubbish, I have security cameras on the front and rear of my property and have clearly seen cats doing it on both the front and rear lawns and the rockery, apart from a couple of half hearted scratches they have left it completely uncovered and in full view.

Our two are indoors most of the time, both use the litter tray.

One covers well, while the other tries to but fails and ends up just scrabbling at the door... Love 'em but I wish she could learn that one simple task properly as it doesn't half stink when she goes!

If we go outside with them they tend to follow us round the garden and not go too far. If they do they're back within a short time and have not had any comments about them fouling neighbors gardens.

There is a high cat population around - at least 5 or 6 we see regularly. As far as I know none of them have regularly pooped inappropriately!

As for the badgers and foxes that patrol at night.... slightly more tricky to control what they do!

I am moving from a flat with a lovely big garden (with a designated pooing spot) to a house with a yard. I've got two cats that dont like litter trays but they are going to have to use them. Seriously considering trying to train them to use the toilet.

    !

I have far more than that passing through the garden (as well as two that live here) and I've found poo in the grass once and in the gravel driveway once as well.

  • Totally get the 'keeping your cat inside over night', but our neighbour has obviously seen our cat in his garden (assume that he wouldn't be blaming my cat if he wasn't sure?) therefore I have to assume that the cat is going into his yard during the day.

I am not a totally irresponsbile cat owner, I do get that when he poos in someone elses property it is annoying. Most of our neighbours are not 'gardeners', nor do they have small children so they probably don't even know that he is using their yards as a toilet. He is a clean cat who is very particular about selecting and cleaning up after himself when he goes to the toilet.

I can't however in all fairness keep the cat inside all day every day, he is very much an 'outside' cat, and as another poster rightfully stated, roaming is a mjor part of their nature.

I'm very worried about what my neighbour will do to him (has told me that I am on 'notice'), and really don't know how to keep him away from the neightbours garden.

I am willing to buy deterrents and given them to my neightbour, but I doubt if he would use them, he just wants me to keep my cat our of his yard. (He is an abusive bully by the way, we hear how he speaks to his wife!)

Over all the years I have patiently put up with various neightbours dogs, (never had a problem with cats), now I'm a bad irresponsbile cat owner????!!!!!

Sorry I just can't believe this.
