I found a Labrador solved the problem of neighbours cats using my garden as a toilet.

The problem you have op is that a cat has freedom to roam. Have you seen next doors cat pooing constantly in your garden or thought that as you have found poo and next door have a cat then 1+1= 3 and it must be their cat? The reason I ask is that a cat may have a patrol area of miles so your garden is probably in the patrol area of hundreds of cats and any one or many of them could be using it as a toilet.
The only thing you can really do it make your garden less attractive to go to the toilet in than somewhere else. If you have just dug it over and have lots of loose earth then you have made it kitty poo paradise because they dig it over as instinct. Look up what deterrents are available to make your garden less attractive
P.s I have cats and I see them at feeding times and in the evening when my son has gone to bed (he is a toddler so the cats avoid him) Most of the day they are asleep either in the shed or at the moment in the garden. At night I haven't a clue where they go. When we were moving house 4 years ago and I had one cat I didn't see him for days so set the cat flap to let him in not out so I could keep him in not out. Over 3 days I caught 2 different cats in my house. It turned out I had been feeding other peoples cats and mine was dining out at a house 3 streets away.I am a Mortgage Adviser

If you are serious about a deterrant, get a sonic scarer, there are good ones on the market and they do work although they do scare birds as well0

There are cat deterrent sprays on the market. I used to have to pick up several piles every day from my open front garden and it stank! I sprayed around the edge of the garden every few days and the cats never crossed it so result!0

I had the same problem a couple of years ago, I tried every sort of chemical repellant, nothing worked and every time it rained I had to re-apply. I ended up purchasing a couple of these devices http://www.amazon.co.uk/PestBye-Battery-Operated-Cat-Repeller/dp/B004SGC75S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1409982967&sr=8-1&keywords=cat+repellent+ultrasonic . I had to buy 2 as after I installed one device the furry beast found another spot to use as a toilet on the other side of the garden outside the range, it took a couple of days to take effect but since then my garden has been poo free.
BetWorrying won't stop bad stuff from happening, it just stops you from enjoying the good.0 -

Yes thats exactly right.I'll buy one of those high pitched electronic deterrants, if that doesn't work then unfortunately I don't have other option other than ....
Other than what?
Just be aware that if you injure or kill the cat you leave yourself open to criminal prosecution and civil action for any costs.Seriously why do people keep cats if they don't look after them?
If you believe the cat is not being looked after please report the owner to the rscpa. If they find the owner is neglecting their pet they will remove and/or prosecute.0 -
My parents have this problem. They can see the neighbour's cats taking a dump in their garden so just shovel the poo back over the fence.
I bought them a cat scarecrow sprinkler:

My dad has had hours of fun watching it squirt water at the cats which tends to send the cats packing.0
