The Ritz Carlton next door is much nicer. Breakfast at the MO is in an enormous multi area room- great choice but with a giant buffet much of the food was cold. One of our rooms smelled badly of damp and the toiletries had been used!
Plus the MO dont let children into the club lounge (unless it has changed recently)
I must have got lucky as it was quite quiet the evenings we were there. We did only use it for a couple of drinks before going out to eat though. Only thing I remember about breakfast was ordering eggs benedict and champagne and someone bringing them to me. We'd been upgraded to a suite so I was quite happy with the room!0 -

Did you have breakfast in the club lounge? That was ok but they don't let children in (unless it has changed) and so you have to eat in the main room which is enormous- very big choice but quite overwhelming when the hotel is busy.
I was really looking forward to the MO as it has great reviews- sadly it didn't match up. Our room was ok- it was our children's that had the issues. I also cut my leg on a dining room chair- I still have a scar - and their response wasn't great. With hindsight it should have been stitched and I struggled to even get a plaster.
It does have fab reviews so we may have been unlucky. I have been to a fair few other MO and always like them.
Thats a great thing about Singapore- so many good hotels to chose from. I have lost the count of how many times I have been there and still enjoy every stay.June challenge £100 a day £3161.63 plus £350 vouchers plus £108.37 food/shopping saving
July challenge £50 a day. £ 1682.50/1550
October challenge £100 a day. £385/£31000 -
Hi,
It's great to come on and see so many helpful hints and tips.
So I've decided to make Bangkok a two nighter and just 7 nights in Krabi.
I REALLY do want to eat local and not hotel food, I plan to consume a hell of a lot of local cuisine, but I love luxury, especially where I sleep etc. and I have a public toilet phobia..........I know I know........
2 x Bangkok
7 x Krabi
2 x Singapore
4 x Dubai0 -
That's looking a much better schedule. At least you will get a full day in Bangkok rather than just sleep, eat and leave. A full week in Krabi/Ko Lanta will give you plenty of time to explore the region in day trips.0

Yes, but - people often arrive with holiday money, odd conversion rates, jet lag exhausted, overwhelmed with the heat and culture shock - and the scammers in Thailand are extremely good at what they do, extremely organised, and have people who appear as disinterested parties working as a part of the scam. It's not as obvious as it sounds in the cold comfort of being at home!
OP - if you're in Singapore for a couple of days and like gadgets and Asian busyness, try Sim Lim Square for a visit - all the taxi drivers will know it, and it's an electronics bazaar of lots of sellers and lots of stuff and buzz. Don't expect to save much cash as the UK is much cheaper than it used to be and the SGD is strong, go for the experience! (My wife hates it, I love it, plan accordingly and send her to the spa!)0 -

Paddy we will DEFO go there, we love gadgets, thanks!0 -

MasterPoo, The Rembrandt's a good hotel to stay in Bangkok.
Also try & have a look at Terminal 21 for food, the toilets are decent too.0 -

All of the shopping malls, and there are lots, in central Bangkok (http://www.bangkok.com/shopping-mall/) have excellent food courts and are good places to escape from the heat, humidity and rain. Personally my favourite is MBK as it's a bit "rougher" than the others. but they are all easily accessible by the Sky Train.
The toilets in Terminal 21 are the ultra modern Japanese style so you need to read the instructions first!0 -

Oh yes I loved MBK too! We only manged a few floors as it was the end of the day & we were really tired. I'd go back just to finish off.
I've never seen toilets like them.0 -

Oh good, it's an experience :-) Just so you arrive briefed, SIM LIM SQUARE is a big anonymous looking blue cube of a place, entrances on all the corners, doesn't look particularly welcoming but doesn't need to. Inside the ground and first floors are more camera-based, the further up you go and the more varied the pickings and better the prices. It's a square layout around a courtyard, but there are even more shops and stalls around the back of each of the sides, if that makes any sense. It's busy, it's safe, explore and haggle!
OK food court in basement but not the best, fine for a drink, eat elsewhere. If you're using the MRT (tube) then Bugis is probably the best station. http://www.simlimsquare.com.sg/ as a teaser, but just go and explore :-)0
