Well, that some ebayer will expect to buy something in Friday night at midnight and collect it on Sunday for a start.

I asked if the sorting office staff if they would be collecting mail from the sorting office on Sunday if I dropped it in and they had no idea.

The board in our sorting office says 'Sunday Opening Hours 12.00-16.00 and a big sad face drawn underneath it, then the explanation that it was a trial. I actually laughed out loud when I saw the face and everyone turned and started at me. Ooops. Someone not happy about working Sundays then!!

Its the post, IMO its so important that it should be a 7 days a week service. Think of all of us that work 9-5 monday to friday its so difficult to get items that wont fit in the post box having to go pick them up etc.

Yet again Royal Mail is scrabbling to keep up. Amazon and My Hermes (probably others as well) have already been doing this for months.

Working from home I have the luxury of rearranging items to be delivered when I can sit in. Our local sorting office is a pain to park near and always has long queues. The staff are indifferent and interested. Most others seem to be the same that I have experienced.

DVLA, Local Councils, Inland Revenue and other public serving organisations can get away with dire customer service because their "customers" have no choice but to deal with them. However there are other companies doing the same as what Royal Mail do but far better and in most cases cheaper. Royal Mail needs to start acting like a private company and realise that if you do not meet customers needs, they will just go elsewhere. While it is has got rid of the shackles of being a public organisation, the unions still hold all the power over it
  • Sunday deliveries? Don't make me laugh. They barely manage to deliver five days a week where I live. And I mean five. They don't bother at all on a Tuesday, haven't done for months (and I was told that by the manager of the local Post Office, too!)

I'm sure I saw something about same day delivery somewhere too. I might have imagined it as it sounds ludicrous.

RM have a far different set up to organise what Hermes et al have been 'doing for months'
They have far higher wage costs for a start and deciding on the practicality and financial viability are major factors.
You cant simply run the RM pipeline on a whim.
If you want a private company ethos and organisation. Then its time to remove the shackles.

RMs pipeline is geared to run a very low volume Tuesday. It is used to allow staffing cost reductions nationally. Generaly a Tuesay will run 50% or less volumes on a Tuesday.
The guy in the Post Office didn't tell me that.

No Sunday delivery or collection office open locally here.

Not surprising as they are looking to part close our sorting/delivery office, you would still be able to collect undelivered items still but mail would be sorted elsewhere then transported in.

I don't expect they feel it worthwhile or financially viable to actually extend services here :) Strange considering I live in a large town but sure there are reasons behind it.
