Royal Mail Sunday services

No Sunday delivery or collection office open locally here.
Not surprising as they are looking to part close our sorting/delivery office, you would still be able to collect undelivered items still but mail would be sorted elsewhere then transported in.
I don't expect they feel it worthwhile or financially viable to actually extend services here
Strange considering I live in a large town but sure there are reasons behind it.
How much money does opening an office on a Sunday make?
If you live in a 'large' town. I would expect there to be more than one RM delivery office?0 -

Ours is like that already and we have Sunday opening.0 -

I live in a large town and there is just one, in fact they closed the local ones in the other towns surrounding this town and all mail is distributed out of the one here. But it is shipped in from a new 'super sorting office' that is about 20 miles away.0 -

Then its a pure cost to open the callers office (in RM terms)
So a staffing cost vs £? gain?
Would people order differently with/without the Sunday opening?
If it generates revenue/saves costs (EG redelivery) then its a no brainer for RM.
The best deal is first time delivery (FTD) where items are gone in one hit.0 -
RMs pipeline is geared to run a very low volume Tuesday. It is used to allow staffing cost reductions nationally. Generaly a Tuesay will run 50% or less volumes on a Tuesday.
The guy in the Post Office didn't tell me that.
Sorry, I think you misunderstand. It's not a question of volume. RM don't deliver at all to my village on a Tuesday, and haven't done for months. The round is not staffed on a Tuesday.
At first I thought it was just me not getting any post, but I asked a few of my neighbours, and it became apparent that nobody was getting any. So I asked the manager of the local village post office why this was, and he told me that they haven't delivered to our village on a Tuesday for several months now.
So, rather than talking about expanding their service to include Sundays, my preference would be that they concentrate on providing the service they claim to provide already and aren't actually providing.0 -

I suggest you speak to RM,not the Post Office.
There is no such thing as simply not bothering to deliver. I dont see a USO exception being granted for a whole village.Exceptions
In rare circumstances, Ofcom may grant exceptions to the minimum Universal Service requirements. These include remote or inaccessible addresses, or addresses that present a temporary safety risk for Royal Mail employees (for instance, due to an uncontrolled dangerous dog on the premises). A full list of exceptions to the Universal Service can be found here.

However many people will say they dont get deliveries on a Tuesday as the low volumes lead to lower call rates and many houses not getting mail to deliver.0 -

Believe me or don't, it makes absolutely no odds to me. :rotfl:
But I am annoyed that RM are talking about increasing their services to seven days a week, when they have failed for several months now to even provide a six day a week delivery service where I live.0 -

Well if it makes no odds to you. why mention it?
If a unit is failing the USO,then it needs raised.0 -
We often go days with no post and then tend to get a pile of letters at the end of the week sometimes.
I can't see our PO opening on a sunday. Many times our PO is shut from friday-monday as the owners go on holiday and don't have anyone to cover.S.E.E - 42.75
