so if someone get high mob and low rate care they have 1 child living with them who's under 16 can they get the SDP?
or do thye have to get MED/HIGH rate care to get the SDP even if they have a child living with them under 16?
You can't get SDP on low rate care. You have to be on mid or highe rate care or either of the care rates on PIP.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

SDP is payable with any of the income based benefits such as JSA/ESA/IS/PCGC.Forums can be/are a good guide to entitlement and it is good practice to back it up with clarification from the relevant department/specialist with written confirmation to safeguard yourself.0 -
There may also be a case where people on contribution based benefits would qualify for income based benefits if the SDP or other premiums apply but they would have to apply for the means tested version.Forums can be/are a good guide to entitlement and it is good practice to back it up with clarification from the relevant department/specialist with written confirmation to safeguard yourself.0

Sorry to hijack the thread but my wife is currently receiving DLA but will be receiving a decision on her PIP in the next 4 weeks (so we're told) and currently her ESA is contribution based, I am her carer and husband and currently claim CA. As far as I can see from any paperwork, she doesn't receive anything relating to SDA or EDP. Could she claim this also?
Thanks

She would need to be on Income Related Benefits for the Premiums to apply.Sorry to hijack the thread but my wife is currently receiving DLA but will be receiving a decision on her PIP in the next 4 weeks (so we're told) and currently her ESA is contribution based, I am her carer and husband and currently claim CA. She wouldn't receive SDP as you receive Carers allowance for her and I'm assuming you live with her, which would also cancel out the SDP.0 -

Thanks for explaining that, much appreciated

Not a problem! They are confusing, I didn't even know they existed until I was told to apply for the EDP after winning my appeal! Thanks for explaining that, much appreciated
I know Universal Credit is much maligned, but the current system really needs simplifying and consolidating instead of having to chase around different departments to get each different benefit, and wondering what we are actually entitled to.0 -
I decided to phone last week to chase up my SDP, and finally 2 months after they received my form the money is in my account.
The received my form on the 7th of July, and I've phoned a couple of times since to find out what was happening. Neither the call centre guy or the decision maker I spoke to last week had any excuses for the wait, other than that they are insanely busy. The decision maker told me it's a very easy benefit to process, the delay is wholly due to how overstretched they are.
Of course it isn't in the governments interest to pay out benefit faster than they can get away with, and we know how much they like borrowing from the sick and disabled! Still it was a larger payment than I was expecting, so as ever thanks to the government for helping me save!0
