Where to buy carpet?

Hello,

I am looking to buy some carpet for 2 bedrooms the hall way and stair case.

From reading the various threads I am likely to go for 80% wool and a twist style.

Can anyone recommend any good retailers close to Erith in Kent(upto 25miles)? I cant seem to find much apart from Carpet Right....

Don't discount Carpet right .....believe me.
Carpet right have thousands of happy customers.
But you have to look beyond the silly 50/60 % sales

Get a total cost and compare with other retailers.
Those that loudly shout......No No Never are taking away from you a mega chain that 'can' pass on savings.

Do your homework, check all retailers. and remember its the final cost that matters.

Carpet plus underlay plus grippers plus fitting ......compare like with like.

ps if carpet right advertises an Axminster........ its still an axminster.
Carpet right do not make carpets , they sell them

Downside with carpetright is they pile the places with overpriced cheap carpets and limit the quality lines. The ones I have been in have no sample books as by limiting lines they sell more so get a better wholesale discount which may or may not be passed on to the customer.

If you want a wide choice of 80:20 search online, get some samples, then go to an independent.

Really surprised at that, huge 'warehouse' stuffed full of carpets, dozens of samples and you couldn't find what you were looking for?

But you suggest you go online and get samples, do they send by post ......... or a large truck? How many samples do you normally ask for?
    and limit the quality lines.

But you must admit they still sell dozens of different Axminster/ Wilton ?

But I must admit the last time I bought carpet , all I wanted was a light brown carpet suitable for the hall/stairs and landing, far too many to choose from, but I was not that really bothered ...... its just a carpet.

We certainly couldn't find what we wanted in local stores as they stock very limited lines. If your only criteria is colour you will get something, but if you want specific such as decent weight 80:20 wool twist you will be limited.

I've just searched their website and they have two which are similar to what we bought and both are almost twice what we paid.

OP do similar and see what they have and use it to compare prices.

Samples are small squares of carpet. Manufacturers send as many as you want.

Yep , thats whats in those dozens of samples littered all around the carpet right shop
As many as what I can find in the named 'warehouse' .......very unlikely

See my first post, get all the info you can from ALL shops.

No argument with that, huge range, form the cheap and nasty , all the way to the Wiltons and Axminister. Bigger range , more choice, whats the problem with that. No one forces you to buy the cheap stuff.
  • Have to say that we had a carpet 2 years ago from carpet right and not only was the price good, the salesman not pushy whatsoever, but the cheap underlay we picked was brilliant and the independent fitter they sent did a very tidy job and cleaned after himself.

In contrast we bought more expensive carpet from a local fitter of good repute, and their more expensive underlay was crap (squeaky) and their fitter did a tidy job but didn't clean up after themselves.

I wouldn't discount carpet right, personally. I'd go on the price and I would certainly suggest checking out the underlay personally rather than accept their recommendation - try and walk on some if you can!
