I cant find an up to date thread for hampers, so thought I would start one (please let me know if I have missed it & I will delete this thread).

If we post what hampers we are planning, and also if we see any bits whilst out and about that may be useful to others. Hopefully this will be of some help to all of us hamper-holics!

Oh, and photos of finished hampers would also be lovely!

My 2014 hampers:

Mum & step-dad-to-be: Cosy night in hamper
Bro, sil & kiddies: Large movie night hamper
DD1: Zombie hamper
DD2: Duck hamper
mil: pamper hamper
bff: gingerbread men hamper

Plus:
dd2's birthday (oct) colouring hamper
another family movie night hamper
"just add ice-cream" hamper
2 x mini movie night hampers
5 x pots of gold

I am off into town Wednesday, and will be on the look out for hamper goodies :j

  • I think hampers for men are a good idea, with little bottles of booze, scratch cards, underpants and socks rolled up.

Also couples hampers with food, a dvd and bottle of wine etc, maybe a cinema voucher.

I am making a cinema hamper for my mom and dad. Only small as I'm putting cinema tickets and treats in a popcorn box.

I always struggle with mens hampers! Would love to do one for my husband, but he has no real interests (other than work, reading & farmville!) and really hates novelty items.

I may do a reading/crime hamper for him as a little extra, not sure yet. I did do a beer hamper last year, with his fav snacks, and lots of different beers/real ales .. that went down well, and fast!

I think Amazon had them cheaper than the above link, I just posted it as it was the best pic I could find to describe.
  • Hampers are such a great idea which I would love to do for the first time this year, will be watching this thread :) where abouts do you get the actual hampers from to put the items in & how much do they cost on average?
    Thanks in advance :)

I get mine from Country Baskets. It's a warehouse that you need to be a member of. Used to be strict on membership, businesses and youth leaders etc, but these days I think they will let pretty much anyone in. can't remember how much I paid, but you can normally pick up a bargain, and I have all my family trained to return the hamper ready for next year.
You can also get there cellopane roles, cellophane bags, ribbon and bows to make it look all pretty.

    My hampers this year:

Parents - wanting more savoury and less sweet this year, and struggling for savoury ideas that aren't chutney and don't need keeping in the fridge. So far got:
    - Wine
    - cheese crackers
    - ketchup
    - crisps, brilliant recipe done in the microwave
    - gingerbread
    - turkish delight
    - marshmallow
    - truffles
    - dried fruit
    - school photo, this is standard every year
    - painted herb pots
    - framed felted picture
    - variety of liqurice sweets
    - 500 piece jigsaw that is small enough for them to do in their caravan

    Mother-in-law
    - Gingerbread
    - Fruit cake
    - mince pies
    - Marshmallow
    - truffles
    - school picture
    - felted poppy cushion

    Best friend
    - massive bar of cadbury dairy milk
    - hot chocolate truffles
    - gingerbread
    - marshmallow
    - marshmallow toasting fork
    - chocolate digestives (they go with the marshmallows for making smores)
    - tea light (for toasting marshmallows over)

As much as possible the stuff will be homemade. I will be starting in the next week or so with my food dehydrator and making the unedible stuff.

I get most of my ideas and recipes from pinterest

Thank you! Yes a bit cheaper on amazon and have one now on my wish list ready for next payday! Brilliant idea, and I now have a hamper theme for him. Thanks again x

  • For anyone doing movie night hampers:
Home bargs have microwave popcorn 4 for £1
Asda have cadbury hot choc sachets 4 for £1
Poundland have large plastic popcorn tubs in. They are decorated like the cinema popcorn tubs, and the perfect size to use as the actual hamper!

Matalan have some lovely lined wicker baskets, the larger ones are £6, but they are nice. I got one for my mums hamper, 5 popcorn tubs for my movie hampers, and everyone else will have cardboard boxes as their base, which I will cover in wrapping paper before packing.

Hi all. I'm doing a few bath hampers this year. Wilkos have got an offer on their fruity bubble bath, shower gel, soaps etc 3 for £3. All different scents. I got 6 different items for my Mum plus a white wicker bin to put it all in (£2.50) and a "Bath" wooden sign (£3). I also bought a couple of her favourite kinds of book earlier in the year when they were reduced to £1 each in Asda. It looks great all put together just need to wrap it in cellophane and Mum's finished.

For my SILs (15 and 18) I have done a smaller version, Wilkos have plastic baths in different colours in the above offer that I am putting theirs in.
    Savings Account - £0.00 :(

    Weight Loss - 33lbs lost 9lbs to go :)

Oooh like the idea of a movie night hamper.

Might do that for my daughter for her Christmas Eve present.
Previous years I have given her bath bombs and new pyjamas (as when she and I were in the bathroom for ages Christmas Eve evening hubby could get the presents down out of the loft and downstairs without her noticing), but she is getting older now, and presents have got smaller so loft not needed for hiding them, but the Christmas Eve evening treat present is now a tradition.

You can use almost anything. You can do something as thrifty as covering a cardboard box with festive paper or go all out and buy a wicker basket. You can use small buckets and create more of a bouquet style hamper. Make sure to check any local charity shops too as they are good for baskets etc.

The Works also have flat pack boxes in all kinds of patterns. They are biggish and square with a lid and you can buy 2 for £10, they are really good for storage afterwards.

If you aren't on Pinterest then I suggest setting up an account as there are some great ideas on there.

I have a few hamper ideas on my link below but if you do a search you are sure to find more:
