Soliitors!

I watched Martin Lewis on This Morning today and he mentioned that he doesn't recommend claim companies for PPI claims but he did mention a solicitor, I have replayed it on Iplayer but didn't catch the name of the Solicitors, can anyone help please! :-) thank you.

Probably 'you don't need a solicitor'

Complain yourself to the company involved

Could be the OP had his rejected and thinks that a Solicitor is needed although I have seen charges amounting to 50% in some cases to do this.
  • But I suppose you can look at as nothing likely to be paid out so why not try with one of these guys.

The recommended solicitor was for flight delay claims. I won't repeat the name as his 'recommendation' was tantamount to advertising.

Most solicitors do not go near PPI.

  • There are lots of solicitors taking on PPI cases but they are no better than many of the CMCs and take fees at the higher end of the scale. It is worth remembering that the original CMC's charged 30-35% + VAT and when challenged about the level of fees they said it was 'in line with the level of fees charged by the legal profession'. One of the biggest advertisers on TV do not even put the level of fees on their website because the MoJ rules do not apply in the same way.

Do it yourself or find a company that charges no more than 10% + VAT (if such a company exists currently)
  • find a company that charges no more than 10% + VAT
Why would you recommend anyone pay even 10% of their redress to effectively use a free complaint process?

No CMC is worth the money they charge. Even a penny is too much for effectively putting a stamp on the complaint envelope.

Not sure why you would want a solicitor unless you were planning to sue.

It's free to make a complaint.

Because some people don't know what the problem is, how they were mis-sold and how the redress has been effectively 'managed down' in the complaint response. Even in the MSE guide it says don't use anyone charging over 25 % so I don't think 10% is an unreasonable figure.

Because not everybody is educated enough to believe they can take on a big financial institution backed by the big lawyers and consultancy firms

Because the FSA recognised that a significant proportion of the population are numerically illiterate.

Because the financial institutions do not have a moral compass when reviewing complaints and base the responses on a balance between what they are expected to uphold by the FCA and the shareholders

But a lot of the CMC's do not actually help with this. They will just be interested in getting their cut of the money.

What you say about people not knowing how to complain and feeling intimidated by big financial businesses is true. But it needn't be. Complaining is straightforward and you do not need specialist help.

Assistance can be sought on sites like this, CAB and even the FOS who, if asked, will do everything from making the initial complaint to the business and then look into it if things are not settled at that point.

There is just no need to throw money away (and reduce your chance of success) by using a CMC.
