O/S Daily Thread Monday 1st September

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Good morning everyone
Monday again and a new month too, where did the weekend and the summer go?
Usual dash for work but will try and pop back later for a catch up with everyone's news.
Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those that need or just want them. Keep well and safe and have a super day.

Thanks for starting the thread TTFTM
Morning all, I was wide awake at 6, so thought I may as well get up. Lovely morning here at present. Plan an early swim and a day in the garden tidying up, cutting back etc if weather holds.
Tea of some sort of LO from the freezer.
Am on holiday countdown, as I can now say it's next month when I see my beautiful 3 year old granddaughter, haven't seen her in the flesh for 9 months, so can't wait for that first big hug.
Speaking if hugs, plenty to spare where needed for those who want or need one,:grouphug:Carolbee0 -
Morning all,
Looks to be another nice day here again, I think most of the schools go back tomorrow which will be nice because it will make it a bit quieter at work and give us tome to bake and restock the freezers !
Took most of dd's stuff over to her new house yesterday will do the rest today, got her mainly unpacked and made the bed up for her, I know its a student house and although it was clean its really shabby the owners have made no attempt to do it up, still she likes it and its in the centre of town so I am sure they will have fun !!
I have just put a beef casserole in the sc for dinner smells good already, it is easier not having to do a veggie option as well, once I am in tonight will do some bread and butter for a quick dinner as I will be in late.
Have good days all xx0 -
Good Morning everyone and what a glorious morning it is at the moment.Blue sky and sunshine
long may it last,I love the autumn when the leaves start to turn and you get some fantasic colours on the trees. This morning I have to take three of my grandsons to have their hair cut and one needs a new blazer.Mum and Dad ran out of time on Saturday
Mind you after lashing out £125 for three pairs of school shoes and another £100 odd for shirts and trousers I'm not suprised DD felt a bit exhausted. The eldest Ben no longer needs these ,although we have a list of bits to get him for Uni,he is off there on the 21st.
Hopefully if the weather stays nice I'll take the boys down to the country park this afternoon and maybe we can find some more blackberries to go into my freezer.
No food shopping to buy at least this week I am fully stocked with far too much stuff as it is:).Henry's apples that he picked for me last Friday made a delicious apple crumble yesterday and there is some left over to go inwith some yoghurt for pud tonight.
Hope everyone has a good day, nice brand new month ahead of us and I have just whizzed through my accounts and I am all up to date with bills and fairly solvent at least:):)
Take care everyone and enjoy the last few days of children before they are off back to school again.
Cheers JackieO xxx0 -
Morning all,
Nice and sunny at the moment. Towels in the WM.
DS2 has his Induction day at College today and I'm feeling nervous because he is riding his moped there. I know he will be fine, it's just a mother thing
Going to clean through this morning. I'm thinking I will do pasta and something for dinner tonight.
Happy 1st September!0 -
:hello: morning all - damp, drizzly start to the day here on Merseyside
.
Thanks for starting today's thread, TTFTM. Try not to do too much in work - remember that you're still actually 'recovering'.
carolbee - isn't it lovely when you notice your holiday 'fast approaching' :j. We were away in early June this year, for two weeks - seems absolutely ages ago now and I could seriously do with another one.
redruby - I'm sure your DD will soon settle into her new surroundings. Sounds typical of the sort of place that gets used for 'student lets' ............. Landlords very rarely spend much money on doing them up, but I'm sure that - with your help - she'll soon make it 'comfortable' and 'smart' with some homely touches. All part of the 'student experience' :rotfl:.
JackieO - Enjoy your last couple of days with your dgk's before they go back to school - I'm sure that none of us will know what to do with ourselves in a couple of days time. Hope you have good Blackberry Pickings :j.
busiscoming - Best of luck to your DS2 for his day in college. I'm sure he'll 'drive safely' on the roads- send him off with a
and a
.
Been up since 6.00am with dgs2, getting him ready for his outing with 'Great-Uncle Tommo', who is like a blooming big teenager himself. He and his ex-wife had three gorgeous little girls - who've turned into lovely young women - but he would have made a wonderful father to a son. Couldn't believe when DS2 announced that DBro would be taking dgs2 out for the day - they'll be very good company for each other. Just hope they 'get a catch'.
for all who need, or would like, one - just help yourself
.
Plans for today -- Leave dgs3 in bed for as long as possible ............... he's back in school sometime this week :j.
- Fingers crossed that the drizzle ends soon - I'd like to get the laundry
.
- Get OH up shortly - he needs a packed lunch for his training course - that should be finishing some time this week
.
- Tonight's evening meal will revolve around 'Turkey Breast Steaks' - that's what I've got 'most' of in the freezer - 6 packs of 2 ! Think we'll also have Red Pepper stuffed with couscous and some oven chips for OH and Salad for me :j.
- Get that sewing project finished off.
- Take it to DSis - or get her OH to collect it from me
.
Hope everybody willwith lots of OS-ing
.
Time for anotherand my toast and marmalade  before I 'get stuck in'.
speak again later - luv Lilyplonk xxx0 -
Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
Now light, cloudy and overcast.
DH up and gone to work early but not stupid early.
Lunch yesterday was roast chicken, roasties, carrots, broccolli, green beans, peas, stuffing, Yorkshires and gravy – was really delicious, everything cooked really well, boys did most of it with me supervising. Tonight we’re having smoked sausage pasta.
DH decided we should go out for a ride in the car yesterday afternoon, so DS1 drove my car and we visited some friends a few miles away – was really nice to get out from the house. He then decided we should go to a restaurant for something to eat – I wasn’t really bothered, but decided I’d just have something small, we hadn’t been to this restaurant before but the food was very nice, it was busy and we got a table straight away but think we timed it right between the end of the lunchtime rush and start of the night time. We’d only been seated a few minutes and people were queueing for tables. Not very OS but certainly not expensive and all the food that we had was nicely presented, piping hot and good quality. We’ll definitely go back, and they do offers in the week, so we may try that another time.
Today DS1 is going with FIL to the bank for me and then to his bank to do a couple of transactions, that I normally do for him as I’m in town anyway. Other than that I will be mostly sitting with my foot up – willing it to mend so when I go back they will take the cast off!
Sounds like all the schools are going back at different times this year – DS2 goes back on Friday – yes, you read it right – on Friday! Sometimes it scares me that these people who make the decisions are in charge of educating our young people!
Have good Mondays everyone x
Take care x
Keep safe and well x

Morning all
Grey & overcast here, fish fed & hubby has a cuppa, I'll do breakfast in a sec.
Thinking of Molly, Hilly, LW, Elona, nmlc TTFM & hubby & so many others in need of hugs.
WM & DW both on & nearly finished, I want to get both emptied before I set off for work, the students aren't back until Wednesday.
My living room is covered in fabric scraps & thread, I cut out lots of squares yesterday, I'll iron them when I get home.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning everyone - sun is shining but there's a drift of rain in the wind.
Left home at 4.45a.m. Had to go back into the house for a torch so that I could see my car and lock the door! There's an outside movement sensitive light but it only works for someone approaching the door and not for someone coming out of the door. Must get the thing adjusted. Had a dark drive for an hour and then dawn came through. Roads were pretty clear and what heavy lorries were out soon pulled over or let cars overtake very quickly. Much better than 'normal'.
Had breakfast at work, egg mayo and a banana along with some left over cherries, and now ready to face the day. Not inclined to do much today though TBH I'm not inclined to do this particular job too much longer.
Yesterday I finished my CS Val McDermid book 'Bleeding' which I really enjoyed. Sat outside until the wind got too cold, the sun was hot and bright. The farmer's two sheepdogs came to visit me, had a couple of licks of my hand, got a stroke and hared back to the farm.
Evening meal will be stir fry beef with noodles, something of a favourite.
Hope everyone is doing well or getting better. Sometimes just being able to function is good enough.
Happy Monday.0 -
Morning :hello:
Miss tru has kept everything relating to work since she left school six years ago, including copies of application forms and notes of jobs she wanted to apply for. She wants to go through it and only keep what she has to. She should be working a short day today so we'll go through it when she gets home. I think there will be lots of scrap paper for the chicken shed
We have an old laptop that's a bit clunky - well it was the last time I used it, hopefully it'll still turn on - I'm going to save documents and photos on a memory stick then delete everything and give it a good clean up. Also need to go through stuff on my laptop.
So a day of sitting still and sorting, how boringBut first - the dentist. Urgh.
