O/S Daily thread Sunday 31st August
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone
Islandmaid – belated congratulations, hope you had a great day x
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
Now light, cloudy and overcast.
DH and myself up and enjoying a peaceful cuppa.
Dinner last night was spag bol and warm rolls. DS1 got the chicken out of the freezer to defrost – it’s now safely in the fridge. I sat for a while yesterday and peeled some potatoes – today we’re having roast chicken, roasties, carrots, broccolli, green beans, peas, stuffing, Yorkshires and gravy. The Yorkshires are all ready made – they are one’s I made and we didn’t use so I froze them, so lunch shouldn’t be too difficult.
Mum and dad visited yesterday – dad went and did their food shopping whilst mum stayed at ours and her and DS1 did some cleaning. Before they arrived I gave the boys a list of a few bits that we needed and they went to MrM, they are much better at shopping than me, they stick to the list! Whilst the boys were out I managed to sit and fold the clean but un-ironed washing, I got them to take it upstairs and to the relevant rooms, so downstairs feels better as not so cluttered.
Our friends came over yesterday was good to see them and have a catch up.
Today will just be a chilling day with a relaxed lunch.
Have peaceful Sunday’s everyone x
Take care x
Keep safe and well x

Morning everybody :hello: - thanks for starting the thread, nmlc
. Sounds like you had a lovely day with your family and parents
. What lovely lads you've got :T. Enjoy your
with DH.
I managed to do an Inventory on the 3 drawers in my F/Freezer - still to tackle the C/Freezer in the downstairs Porch. Bottom drawer, which I've not been able to open for ages cos it's frozen stuck, appears to have a large amount of solid ice in the base of it - which puzzles me somewhat.
Not sure how to handle this dilemma as it's now 'bugging me'. Ideally, I'd like to get the drawer out altogether to investigate the source of the water that's got in there AND to see if any of the stuff in the bottom of the drawer is salvageable :undecided - decisions, decisions. This could be where my 'Polti' comes into its own, as long as I'm gentle with it.
IF I can get that stuff out - and it's still usable - we'll be having Chicken Curry for tomorrow's evening meal with Indian Snacks/Naan Breads - I know there's some of those in there :j.
Not sure how everybody is doing today - so I'll just sendfor anybody with a birthday;
for anybody who's not well/feeling down/struggling with life and
for anybody who's feeling happy today.
Plans for today include:- Sort out Drawer 3 in F/F.
- Do Inventory on downstairs c/freezer.
- Get the rest of the garden debris collected together into the Garden Waste Bin for tomorrow morning's collection.
- Complete a sewing project for DSis2 who goes on hols next week.
Reckon that's quite enough for a 'Day of Rest'. IF there's any time left over, I'll sit with my feet up and watch some TV this evening ............
Okey dokey, it's time for a properand my morning toast/marmalade .
Speak again later - take care everybody - luv Lilyplonk xxx0 -
Morning all

Morning :hello:
No food was cooked yesterday, I didn't get round to putting the oven onWhich is just as well, when I went to get something out of the freezer I realised there was no way I'd fit anything else in. I'll have to eat from the freezer for the next couple of days and get the others to do the same.
The man-trus are home today, they'll turn up anytime from lunchtime onwards. No doubt they'll create a huge mess while they unpack the car. I'm going to enjoy a peaceful morning then brace myself for the chaos

Morning All
tru - Hope you enjoyed your peace and quiet. My DD was staying out last night so I too had an empty house, lovely!
The weather looks good but I managed to get all the washing done yesterday and dried on the line so not much to do today. Still not dusted!
Picked up a lovely little armchair (without arms!) from Freegle yesterday that will do for DS2s collection. Keep finding things that I don't use or have 2 of and putting them in a box for him.
Finished varnishing the top of a little table yesterday, need to chalk paint the underside and legs at some point and then that's something else out of the way. I've not got another project after this so will have to wait till the builders have been (starting on Tues) and done DDs room.
Hope you all feel good today and enjoy Sunday. Take care. XX0 -

Don't know why, but since DH's birthday time seems to have disappeared. Many thanks for his birthday wishes. He had a lovely day, we went for lunch at the Hope & Anchor at Blacktoft, at the side of the Ouse, which was lovely, and with some different things on the menu, and quite reasonable, for those of you around the area. Then I had organised last minute for a surprise cake and cuppa, it didn't last long, it just made the day special.
Islandmaid. Belated Congratulations for yesterday, I hope everything hung went to plan.
:hello: All Newbies and welcome back returners
 Everyone else
nmic. Sorry to hear about your foot. Take it steady, and if DH complains again, just tell him he can do his own cooking!
lily. The hair dryer might help loosen the drawer.
Molly, HS, LW, jlh, nmic and all others not feeling good, have ((hugs)), spoons or positive vibes, grab a handful as you pass.
I have volunteered to have Gt Neice & youngest Gt Nephew on Monday, to bake, so will take advantage of the recipe yesterday as it sounds ideal. I will have some white bread dough ready, as they love making shaped bread rolls, especially the 5yo nephew. Any other suggestions welcome, maybe some biscuits.
Think a coffee is on the agenda, so will leave you for now. Take care everyone. DGMember #8 of the SKI-ers Club
Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?0 -
donny-gal - Thanks for the hint on the hairdryer :T - probably a better idea than the Polti which would more than likely end up defrosting everything in the drawer .0

Morning all!!
I have been up and gone for a run, currently enjoying a bowl of porridge and a coffee before i get started on today's tasks.
I'd like to batch cook a couple of soups, and we're having some dhaal and hm flatbreads for dinner, so want to get that prepped as much as possible, and hopefully make a spinach and lentil lasagna to pop in the freezer.
Also need to have a quick tidy up of the living room, put the bins out, wash some clothes, and then I plan to relax and finish my current read, which is a Terry Pratchett book. Such a great author.
Have a lovely day all!

Happy Sunday everyone and last day of the month.
Blue skies with drifts of white clouds. Little wind here in Hampshire.
Lilyplonk, I love your little pictures. Delightful.
Perhaps you could explain to members how you put them in your replies?
From having no plans yesterday I was invited out with adult DD. We picked up son and took him to the garage to collect his car. Then they had a walk around the next town over.
I was left to wonder around Asda. My dear husband says there is no one he knows like me that can spend a few hours in a supermarket and still not spent much.
I spent a while looking at the ladies fashion.
Chose x2 lovely tops and an under top. Trousers/colored jeans to go with both. Tried them on in the fitting room as I did not want to have to ask someone to help me return anything that did not fit.
Trousers are a deep blush/pink.One top is a pale blush/pink and the 2nd top is cream.
Bit different to my favorite blue and purple colors
I am definitely not a black clothes person.
Picked up x2 new plastic lunch boxes for our mid week break to The Isle of Wight in 15 days time. We will be having a picnic out every day.
Then did a little grocery shopping. spent 25 pounds. Things on the list and planned needed things. No impulse buys here.
Yes! took my own bags.
Going to bake a fruit cake today, or may be x2!. I often give one away.
11.15am now. Done the ironing and washed the breakfast dishes.
Been picking the fruit and veg from the garden. Beans, peppers, cucumber and tomatoes. Raspberries and blackberries.
Half steamed some beans = 10 minutes and now letting them get cold. Will be putting in freezer.
Hoping some mince I got out of the freezer at 9am will be defrosted so I can make a lasagna for dinner.
Have a lovely, restful day everyone. Try to get outside a bit for wellness and drink your water. The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)0 -
Hello all:wave:
Haven't posted in a few days as the LO's all picked up a gastro bug.:(
So last night was the first proper sleep we all had recently.
As a consequence we have a lot of stuff to catch up on!
Hope everyone is doing well. Will try to catch up on thread alsoNOT BUYING IT 2018!
Consumerism is.....buying things you don't need with money you don't have to impress people you don't know and probably wouldn't like even if you did know them.0
