Halifax mortgage applications thread!

Hello to all !
Here's my story:
07/11 viewed house, later got Halifax DIP online
09/11 made offer in the morning - was accepted in the afternoon
10/11 completed full mortgage application in branch, paid for valuation
I'm waiting for the actual valuation to be done...
My offer was based on the selling price of an identical neighbouring house which sold one month ago. That house has a decked garden and ceramic tiling to kitchen and bathroom floors while "mine" doesn't. However "mine" has a brand new C/H boiler and it is chain free, these features are much more useful to me personally than minor cosmetic improvements which I could easily do on my own over a couple of weekends if I really wanted them.
In the mean time I've been messing around with the various online valuation tools out there, they indicate a "likely value" £4k short of the agreed price. Needless to say this has taken my anxiety to a whole new level...0 -
Hi all,
I currently have a mortgage application In With Halifax (since 10th Nov)..
More documents requested and submitted on 13th Nov
Valuation fee taken 11th Nov but not booked in yet
Does anyone know whether Halifax hang fire on the valuation until they are satisfied with everything else?
Once valuation is instructed am I pretty much accepted?
Anyone got experience of Halifax offering less than you need (based on affordability not valuation)?
When would they tell you this?0 -
Halifax have accepted us subject to valuation and they told the broker they would not instruct a valuation until they were happy with our checks - our valuation was postponed to this Thursday due to availability of a surveyor but it wasn't instructed until they'd verbally said yes to our other checks so the brokers expecting them to offer straight after valuation0

Thank you that's really helpful!
I'm still playing the waiting game.. They now need an employers reference (which my employer has a week turnaround on and will only post grrrr., so the wait goes in.. At least if we get to the point of a valuation being instructed I will know it might be good news but still anxious about them offering us less than we need and worried that might not happen until the last minute:(0 -

Have you had any updates yet Gilbert21? I'm waiting for my valuation to be carried out ... at the moment it's been booked for 24th (tuesday) ... feeling very anxious at the moment!0 -
We had our mortgage accepted by Halifax. From full application to offer it took just 13 days (including weekends!). Although felt a month! they've been brilliant. So happy and relieved! we will however need to probably extend the offer, as it's a new build and due for completion 'summer 16'.0

Hi, can I join in please?
We have a DIP with Halifax for maximum mortgage amount of £244,000.
We have had an offer accepted on a house - purchase price £400,000.
We are applying to borrow £230,000 so less than the maximum they said we could - really hoping that that, coupled with our big deposit will work in our favour.
We haven't actually done the full application yet, as the chain hasn't closed at the top (the people our vendors are buying from still have to find somewhere).
Are we ok to apply now or should we wait until the chain completes?0 -

Our mortgage offer from the Halifax came on Saturday and its valid for 6 months, plus it took a couple of weeks to apply, get the checks done, send proof of hubbys contract and then the valuation - should be plenty of time for the top of the chain folks to find somewhere?0 -

I hope so! Would like to be in before my birthday which is 4th June (no idea why it just sounds like a good idea!)0 -
Was thinking of applying next week but is December a bad time to apply for a mortgage?
Just thinking what with Christmas coming it may take longer than usual??0
