Don't like look of Skoda and besides when asked what car he's driving he wouldn't be happy saying Skoda

Out of interest what was the car he's just sold?
My GF's been driving a BMW 335d Touring last couple of months.. Plenty of Room decent MPG and certainly gives 3/4 of a buzz... good all rounder.0 -
In my previous life before redundancy I worked in a large dealership chain in the warranty and service department. I can say all cars have the good points and bad.
Out of curiosity, how old are you looking at? I would personally say if you have your minds set on those two options, the ASX is the best option. I have worked on freelanders from the earliest to the latest incarnation and some horrors are part and parcel of the experience, plus in all honestly the parts are frankly eye watering. Food for thought
P.S if he wants a Jag estate with as you said, mondeo underneath, He's looking at a X type (not as much mondeo underneath as some people believe, parts interchangeability is very very small) A Few problems with them, as far as Jags go, it was not the most reliable and gearboxes are a big weakness and parts are of a cost that make me weep, and I own a defender! buy with extreme care on that one, for that kind of money, there are plenty of newer and more long term value options.0 -
An Astra something. He hated it, bought in haste, thought downsizing a good idea as he had retired etc.Flying-High wrote: »Out of interest what was the car he's just sold?

he wants a 10 plate or later.alextexmex wrote: »

Thanks for all your insight and advice.
It's so funny when you talk to people about their cars. They either love or hate it, though they always take a while to admit it was a mistake. Few family or friends seem to like their cars.
Sister had BMW 3 series - too low to get in. Now has an Audi Q something. She likes it apart from the smell of the leather seats!

10 Plate or later, you cant go far wrong with a Mondeo estate, the missus has one as a company car and has rolled up a biblical amount of miles in a very short period of time, feels very exclusive inside, very Germanic, especially in high trim levels. She has the titanium x model with all the trimmings, nice nice car.
The Mitsubishi you mentioned I would say would be a good punt too. Have to say I personally like the seat Exeo, very nice car for the right money when you find one, they are based on a previous model Audi A4 and seat have ironed out a lot of the kinks and annoying little bits along the way, reliable, comfortable and can certainly shift too when the times right, the TDI 140 is a sweet engine with a lot of get up and go and very reasonable fuel economy too.0 -
The Mitsubishi asx now off. Because we are random people in a car park today we were parked next to a 63 plate one an OH asked the driver what they thought of the car. She hated it because it was unreliable and kept having to go back to the garage to be fixed!
While driving down the motorway today we have been maybe or no to cars we've seen!!! Such fun!

I must have an early one (52 plate). It drives very very nicely, relaxing on the motorway. Has air suspension which breaks down a lot, adjustable ride height for rough terrain and the 2.5 V6 24v tdi engine has camshafts that are made of chocolate. It's also pretty slow (0-60 takes about 9 seconds) despite having 180bhp and is thirsty as diesels go.Flying-High wrote: »A6 All road? On the plus side, it has a cavernous boot and mine has the optional low ratio transfer box to help with towing (which is the reason I bought that specific car). Later models didn't have that option as far as I know.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230 -
hahaha!
A mechanic friend was here today and he said "Freelanders loads of problems despite BMW engine"! I test drove one and thought it plastic inside which OH agreed on.
I'm bored at looking at cars but life will be hell if he buys a car he hates it!
He still reminisces about his Mondeo that he reluctantly got rid of 3 years ago. He loved car but it was almost 10 year old and showing age though it had been mega reliable aside from brake callipers. He saw a white mondeo today he loved but said it was probably ex taxi
Freelanders were loads of problems, the 2 not so much, hadlex being the main one. Three amigos isnt a problem either, but the freelqnder is pointless if you dont need a big 4x4, the fuel usage will make it non viable.0 -
