    Chocolate Oaty Squares

    3 oz margarine
    2 tablespoons golden syrup
    1 tablespoon brown sugar
    8 oz porridge oats
    1 teaspoon cinnamon/ 1/2 teaspoon mixed spice/allspice
    a pinch of salt
a bar of chocolate of your choice (milk or plain or white|)

Melt the margarine, golden syrup and sugar together in a saucepan and stir in the dry ingredients except the chocolate. Spread into a greased sponge tin and cook at gas mk4/350 degF/180 degC/160 deg FAN for 30 ish minutes. Take it from the oven and while it's still hot grate the chocolate over the top of it and the chocolate will melt so you can spread it evenly. Leave it to get cold before cutting it into pieces.

You could add in some dried fruit if you like it, I've used both dates and chopped up prunes and both are nice variants.
This sounds delicious! I've snagged it, and will try it out some time soon - probably once the kitchen's done, as I'm trying not to do much shopping til then (have to find a place to store it all, y'see).

Anyways, the primary reason for logging on today is to wish Mr & Mrs Islandmaid a wonderful day and many, many happy years together.

These recipes sound amazing, I may have to do some baking this afternoon! XX
  • Hi all
Islandmaid, good luck & good fortune.
JackieO, glad you had a good hols.
    Gonzo, welcome back.
Elona, he's a complete control freak & he believed that as he was paying SIL's wages he should decide on their lifestyle.
I filled the car up earlier & did a bit of shopping, just bread rolls & sausages, came home to collect hubby, then went to DD1's & then to the garden center & aquatic shop. We had lunch when we got home, hubby is now pottering in the garden I'm having a cuppa & some HM blackberry & apple crumble.
I picked up 4 large men's shirts for my next quilt from the local CS, plus a dress & cardi for one of the DGC.
Time I hung more washing on the line.
    Hugs Hester

It will be worth it if you are :) I've made MrsL's chocolate oaty biscuits - similar to the chocolate flap jacks I make but I put all spice in these. They look and smell lovely but I've told my lot they have to wait until after pizza. Hopefully I can get OH to load the pictures on photobucket later :)

    Hello

Just realised its been almost a year since my last post, where does the time go? I have been lurking sometimes when Ive had a spare few minutes, which have been rare. My new - well not so new been in it a year - job which I am really enjoying got so busy that I ended up doing lots of extra hours, which meant less time on the computer and a bit more money in the household. That has all stopped now and although I never gave up the MS ways, did let them slide a bit. Will def be careful again now though. As well as having less money coming in, student finance have cut DDs money as I earned more last year. She has worked really hard at Uni and worked in a PT job where they treated her horribly, so we persuaded her to leave (the job) when she finished for the summer. We will need to provide bit more financial support to her this year, although she might have another job in the offing and will certainly do her utmost to get another one, I dont want her to go through being in a miserable job/no money again.
I have 2 loads of washing drying outside, have mended a pair of trousers so they will be serviceable for work, ate leftovers for lunch, have dough in BM for homemade pizza for dinner using more leftovers for toppings. Might make some of those chocolate flapjacks while we have the oven on too. Did Aldi shop this week, used voucher from newspaper to save a fiver and actually picked the paper up as I went into the store! the only thing from there we dont like is their baked beans, think the sauce has funny fragrant taste, everything else is good and I have stocked up on their cup pastas for speedy packed lunch if I need one. I have meal planned for the coming week so shouldnt need any top up shops. next thing is packed lunches for DS who starts back at college next week. His mates buy pizza, chips etc but I dont have the money to give him to buy junk, trouble is I dont really want to be wasting money on food that sits in his bag for a week. He rarely eats the fruit, wont eat a sandwich and doesnt like crisp type snacks. I do make pasta salads, he doesnt like rice ones and extra pizzas when I make them but want him to have better balance. Im tempted to say to him that hes big enough. to decide what he wants and if he chooses not to have a lunch he can go hungry, but then he comes in and eats me out of house and cereal!! back to the drawing board.

Congrats to Islandmaid, MrD and I just recently celebrated 28 yrs of marriage, realised I have been married longer than I was single .

    Thoughts to all.
    Thoughts to all. Mrs D.

    Good evening

    Congratulations to Islandmaid
    Welcome back mrsd and gonzo
I've never been to ikea butterfly brain. The nearest one to us is 90 miles away. Is it true you can get lost in there?
mrsl I've wrote your recipe down to try next week. It sounds lovely.

It's x factor time!!!!! Does anybody else love it? I think the auditions are the best part.

This afternoon I finally got school shoes. dd2 from a$da and dd1 from clark$. BIG price difference, but poor dd1's feet have half a size difference. Her big foot is 3 1/2 and her little a 3, and clark$ are the only place that do half sizes.
DD2 birthday tomorrow. She will be double figures. This time 10 years ago ...:rotfl: I managed to get her presents under budget. She's have a small party next weekend with her friends. She can never have her party on her birthday as I'm not organised enough to invite kids before school breaks up in June, plus I think most parents would forget about a party their child was invited to 8 weeks ago.
The kids in the park had a water fight this evening, they were freezing! but had fun.

I made plain muffins earlier, they were a little more cooked on the outside than the inside, lower temp next time. Can anybody tell me how to make them look more like a muffin? Mine always come out smooth on top.

HShi2.gif and welcome back to Gonzo1987 and mrsd - great to 'meet' you both :T.

elona - :T on your goodscales.gif - ignore that 'O' word - it's a horrible one - concentrate on 'positive eating for health' and 'improving fitness levels'. Together they'll both result in weightloss :j.
caz - re Ikea - :rotfl:, yes you CAN get 'lost' in there. Well, at least I can go in there and almost forget to come back out again :o. OH has told DS1 that he's not allowed to take me there any more .

Looks like everybody has had a very busy Sat afternoon.

I managed to get out for a stroll to the shops - made that stoopid mistake of taking 'Wally-the-Trolly' with me :o. You all know what THAT means - I got totally taken advantage of by the whoopsie cabinets in Mr T :rotfl:.

As I came through the checkouts, the Heavens suddenly emptied their contents all over MrT's carpark .................... Only one thing for it, at a time like that - to hide out in Costa Coffee with a Flat White and my Kindle for company :j.

By the time I got back home - dry, I might add :D - and put all my whoopsies away, it was time for evening meal. Curry with a giant samosa for OH and Roast Beef Salad for little ol' me .

I'm now going to do my Freezer Inventory - in the words of Captain Oates, 'I may be some time' .............

speak again later - luv Lilyplonk xxx
