O/S Daily thread Saturday 30th August

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

    Morning all :)

Hope no-one minds that I started the daily thread this morning :o I have been up since just before 5 as young missy went to the bathroom and disturbed Laddo who then wanted to get into our bed. He's gone back to sleep so I'm sat in the kitchen with a mug of coffee.

Last night OH requested Spanish Tortilla for breakfast so I cooked up some potatoes ready for this morning. I haven't made it in a while but everyone likes the version I make :)

I'm also going to make some Marmalade Muffins which I found in a Weightwatchers recipe book last night. Bread rolls need making and the pizza dough as it is HM pizza night tonight. The kids really look forward to pizza nights as they get to create their own things and we have fun whilst they make them.

On the housework front there's a bit of ironing unfinished from yesterday which needs sorting, the bathrooms are on the list again and the floors need a good vacuum (OH can do that job :D ) I also need to pop to the SM to get tomorrow's roast dinner ingredients. I think we will have pork tomorrow.

Hope everyone has a god day :)

    Good morning jlhmd666 and everyone.
Just saying to myself, I could sleep walk and put that WM on.
I half filled it yesterday with the overflow of things and this morning filled it.
In went the Arial gel for coloured wash and shops own softner in the drawer.

Made a coffee in our one cup machine. THe mug I used was Delf ware blue and white.Bought on a coach trip to Holland in years gone by.

Opened the downstairs curtains to let the day begin and light in.
No need for electric lights on, always fearfull of the bill.

Last night I made x2 large queche. Egg and bacon and cheese and onion.
We had some for dinner and plenty left for snacks/lunch today.
I use Tesco plain value flour and stork marg. for the pastry.First cook the flan case using baking paper and baking beans to make a crisp base. The put the filling in and return to oven. Very tasty.

I was chuffed last night to be awarded my silver MSE star.
I am a chatterbox on the forum :0)

Adult DD took Queen Bee dog for a walk at 6pm. Naturally, she went swimming in the muddy river ;0?. Came back and I gave her a bubble bath and showered her down. Nice warm water. Pampered dog.
She is trialing Purina Beta turkey flavour dog food for a company. Wags her tail when I open the packet.

No plans for today. Just carry on.

    Sending good wishes.....

    Hey all!

Today an audit of our cupboards is in order before I head to the super market! Going to make a meal plan and attempt to stick to it!! Harder than it seems some day. Hoping for no other spends today as I have very little cash to play with

    Good morning everyone.

Gosh, it's windy today, the sea is very choppy. When I arrived home last night I put on the woodburner (just three logs) to make it cosy. Of course, was immediately far too hot!

Filled the bird feeders up which brought the birds back quickly. We've got a CCTV cam focused on the feeding station so can watch over the net, cheers me up to see them all.

Did the unpacking and putting away last night. Watched Dr Who again whilst having my takeaway and thoroughly enjoyed my quiet night in.

Today? Not too sure, will help friends with their holiday lets I think, if they need me. Nothing to buy as I got the essentials in Glasgow yesterday on the way up. I love it when I can just do what pleases me.

Hope things go fine for everyone. Good vibes all round.

    Happy Saturday.

Good morning chums I'm back from my hols and had a wonderful, if eventful time :).Great rented house on the Isle of Wight and I will definitely rent it there again next year.Nice size garden for the boys and two dogs, including a apple tree that gave us some nice cooking apples so we had a couple of crumbles and a pie over the two week holiday.DD and the boys went sea-fishing twice and both times caught enough for our dinner. My son-in-law made an amazing sea-bass with butter and chilli sauce which was pan-fried.Couldn't get fresher as it had been swimming in the Solent that morning :):)DD loves sea-fishing,but doesn't like fish ,so she had sausages:):).A bit fraughtful coming home yesterday as we had just landed at Southampton with the two cars ,dogs hamster and four grandchildren when she realised she had left a bag at the holiday house in Freshwater !!!.Panic stations ,so son-in-law and boys and assorted animals went home to Kent in one car I parked up and DD and I had to catch the Redjet Hi-speed boat across to West Cowes then cab to freshwater where the cleaning lady luckily had found it and waited for us.Then back to Cowes and return to Southampton .picked up my car and made our way back home .The M25 was gridlocked as there had been a problem with accidents on there so it took what was normally an hour and a half's journey almost four hours to complete !!!Finally got home at 8.00 last night But apart from that we had a great time.Spent quite a bit of money, but thats what holidays are for and we all had a good time.

So back to reality and belt tightening until next year.I'll definitely go back to the same house as it was exactly what we wanted for the size of our family. Spotlessly clean and all mod cons, very well equipped, only thing it didn't have was no wi-fi which didn't bother me but the boys missed it a bit for their tablet thingys, but not too much of a problem really.First week the weather was beautiful but the second was a lot damper.DGS Ben arrived down after his reading Festival trip,we had to transfer him some cash for the ticket as he had his pocket picked at the festival and lost £130 !!! not a happy lad.Hopefully he will get a couple of weeks work at Dds place before he goes off to Uni late September. He had got his accomodation sorted in Halls at Norwich, and I managed to find a really nice stainless steel frying pan in a charity shop whilst on holiday with a copper base to it which only cost £3.50.We will be slowly collecting his bits in a big box for him to take when we take him up there. It will seem strange to us as the family will be getting smaller once he is away and Dd will only have three of her brood left at home. The youngest Mikey takes his 11+ next month and he will be in year six. They grow up so fast.Jack who is 15 in February has been picked to do the Ebac at school as he is a very bright lad and only the top 10% of boys will be taking it in his year. The other lad henry is a lovely lad and is doing quite well,he is very focussed about his school work and I never have to nag him to do his homework at all.

Today I have a line of washing to go out shortly ,at least its dry so it will get a good blow hopefully. Then I must get a bit of shopping. Not a lot as I am only buying essentials this month and will use up as much as possible in my freezer as I want to try and work it down a bit.I came home with £14.00 in MrTs vouchers left over and £2.18 in a voucher from there from our shopping. So that will go into my little brown food budget shopping purse which will get me the bits I want today I think.
Hope everyone has had as good a fortnight as I have
Holidays are great but it was also great to sleep back in my own bed last night.Lots of 'Tivo'ed' stuff to watch today whilst doing my ironing later on
    Have a good weekend chums

    Morning all

Looking forward to a trip down some wartime tunnels today with friends. Have made apple cake and fruit cake, suppose I should have made a wartime recipe!

Fish and chips for tea, a very rare occurrence for us as usually don't have takeouts in any form, so will be a treat

Have meal planned and shopped for the next week, lots of recipes that I can freeze half of for our dinner later in the month when I don't fancy cooking.

Happy weekend all, hugs where needed to those in need. X

I need to put petrol in the car today, go to the aquatic shop for water for the fish tank & pop into DD's to collect my bank card that I left there. I have washing on the line, but I'm not sure it will dry, I might need to dry it on the maiden.
DD2 is a bit happier now her hubby has a new job, for now she has decided to cut contact with her dad at 38 weeks pregnant she doesn't need the grief, he's not happy with her having a 4th child & at one point tried to bribe her into a termination, nutter.
I spent an hour yesterday cutting up hubby's old shirts, ready to make another quilt, I might pop into the local CS to see if they have an more shirts.
    Time I made another cuppa.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Now light, cloudy but sun trying to break trhough the clouds.

DH up and gone to work stupid early.

Dinner last night was using up stuff from the fridge – sausages, bacon, new potatoes, eggs, beans, cooked fresh tomatoes, bread and butter for those that wanted it. DH moaned about it and then said it wasn’t right as he wanted toast – I didn’t say a word and just continued doing what I was doing. I haven’t spoken to him properly since – if I could have done I’d have got up took his dinner and chucked it in the bin, but as I’m not very mobile I couldn’t but I made sure he got the message very clearly – he got 1 of my looks and a wall of silence. I’ve told him before when he moans the day I stop answering back/stating my views is the day he wants to start worrying – he’s now doing the being nice thing and at the moment I’m not interested. I think it’s now completely apparent who does the majority of the work in our house/relationship as he hasn’t got a clue, the house is a complete tip,the clean washing is just laying on the dining table, there’s no food properly planned etc. I am able to do the washing as long as it’s brought down the stairs and put in the machine, I can then manage to put powder and conditioner in, boys have been putting it on the line or in the TD if it’s wet. My parents took a bulk load of washing earlier in the week once we knew my foot was broken and I was in plaster and on crutches and supposed to be off my feet. It’s been more difficult because we’d been on hols for 2 weeks so there was a load more washing than usual – typical! Sorry …… that turned into a bit of a rant.

Got up yesterday and had slept so much better and felt better, decided I could do without any painkillers – by 1pm was feeling really rough – won’t be doing that again. In the morning DS1 helped me in to the car and he drove to mum and dad’s to collect the last lot of washing she’s done for us and we ended up staying for lunch – think that and not taking any pain killers was just too much. Once we got home I took some meds and got my foot elevated and sat still for a while and felt better. I’m just going to have to accept that I can’t do much, and what I can do I have to do steadily and only small things!

Nothing much planned for today – friends phoned last night and they are coming over this afternoon so that will be really good to see them.
    Happy Saturday everyone x

    Take care x

    Keep safe and well x
