  • Chocolate Oaty Squares

    3 oz margarine
    2 tablespoons golden syrup
    1 tablespoon brown sugar
    8 oz porridge oats
    1 teaspoon cinnamon/ 1/2 teaspoon mixed spice/allspice
    a pinch of salt
a bar of chocolate of your choice (milk or plain or white|)

Melt the margarine, golden syrup and sugar together in a saucepan and stir in the dry ingredients except the chocolate. Spread into a greased sponge tin and cook at gas mk4/350 degF/180 degC/160 deg FAN for 30 ish minutes. Take it from the oven and while it's still hot grate the chocolate over the top of it and the chocolate will melt so you can spread it evenly. Leave it to get cold before cutting it into pieces.

You could add in some dried fruit if you like it, I've used both dates and chopped up prunes and both are nice variants.

Been to help out, got shooed away so back home. At my front door there's a whole load of chickens from the farm all scratching away so that reminded me to get some eggs. The hens are all different varities from long legs and bodies to fat and fulsome. There's even a very beautiful speckled hen, plus two handsome cockerels.

Now going to read. Getting visitors this afternoon so that's enough excitement and activity for a Saturday.

Have a fantastic day and a happy life together.:j:j:j

I did not think it was possible for your ex to sink even lower in my estimation but for once words fail even me!

Make sure you rest and put your foot up and get yourself better.

So glad you have just a great holiday. You all deserve it so much.

Made DH special green tea and DD made him a home made juice.
DD had egg and HM toast - loaves still not rising that well in BM but eatable.

Had lovely peaceful shower and browsing on here before getting dressed and making soup for lunch with home grown squash and courgettes. Dishwasher is on and kitchen is cleared up a bit.

So pleased I got Christening present in plenty of time as it looks as if DH will be having hospital treatments or procedures most days for the next couple of months or a bit longer. Have made him promise to rest when he gets a bit tired and to try all the concoctions of fruit, veg and spices and special oils I have researched.

Weighed myself and I lost five pounds so am now just overweight rather than obese (horrible word). Never thought I would forget to eat as I am usually an appetite on rather fat feet.;)

Tried on hats for me at DD's wedding at end of November and nearly had a funny turn at the prices  Think I will be haunting sales at posh shops or discount outlets in the next month or so. I don't want to let DD down by looking dowdy but can't feel happy at spending a lot of money when I can get something elsewhere at half the price but still the same quality.

    Hugs to all

    Morning all,

Islandmaid - Have a fabulous day and many Congratulations!

JackieO - Nice to have you back, glad you had a brilliant time.

Elona - I completely agree with you about the prices of suitable Wedding attire. I'm dreading having to buy my outfit, I really baulk at paying a fortune for clothing, even things I will wear to death!

So we've been and done the Aldi shop. had to pop into Wilko and buy some new smoke alarms. I don't know if they just go funny after a few years or if we are haunted, but we seem to have them randomly beeping. It's not even the usual timed beeps they do when the batteries are running down!

DH is out playing with the multitude of mopeds we seem to be aquiring recently. DS2 has now decided he wants a 125cc as he is worried about the fairly steep hill he has to come up on his way back from College. It's a shame it's the other side of the Downs. Still he has his Induction day on Monday and we will wait to see if he gets up the hill on his 50cc!!!

DH is off to football later and I shall just enjoy pottering about.

Elona, have you thought about hiring? Try here: http://www.getaheadhats.co.uk/
I found a gorgeous hat by the milliner who made Princess Eugenie's hat for Kate & Prince Williams wedding, not cheap but it was in the top price bracket, and they aren't you run of the mill JL or HofF type! They are all franchises held by farmers wives, so good for the rural economy :)

I'm back!! and here to stay I promise! I finally have a computer at home now thanks to my lovely boss, so can keep up to date with all you lovelies on here and not just FB!

Jackieo - I was at Reading Festival too, I hope aside from the pickpocketing your DGS had a good time, we've already bought our tickets for next year!

Even though I haven't posted much I've still been keeping up with the OS way of life as much as I can, belts need tightening a bit, so will have to see where I can improve!

Had a food shop delivered yesterday, hubs and I are embarking on a vegan diet and our fridge just looks beautiful so much fresh fruit and veg. I plan to spend tomorrow doing some batch cooking - a selection of soups, curries and vegan lasagne as this has helped us massively recently when it comes to sticking to meal plans and not turning to take away when we can't be bothered with cooking .

    Hope everyone is okay! X

Islandmaid - have a wonderful day!!

You have given me something to think about re a hat and there is a place in York.

Not sure if I want a full length or below the knee outfit and may have lost more weight in three months so don't want to choose something too early but don't want to be dashing around in a panic either.

We were looking through old jewellery with DDs and I found an eternity ring which I am wearing till my own rings are resized by a local jeweller. It is as if it was meant and quite comforting.

    Hugs to all

Thank you MrsL I'm going to make these this afternoon. It's very kind of you to post the recipes.

I made some vanilla refrigerator biscuits this morning following this recipe:

The children liked these and I confess that I did sneak one with my coffee :o
