Thank you for updating us, rbk. I'm pleased to hear your manager apologised; it must be helpful to you to know that she knows she did the wrong thing and with any luck she'll be more supportive and tactful with people in the future.

Taking each day as it comes is the best thing to do and I'm sure your unease will settle quite soon when you get back into the routine of work. But think how well you've done! I think you've coped admirably with what must have been a very stressful time for you. :)

    Take care,

Just a quick message of support RBK. You must have been even more stressed over the past week or so, when you thought everything had been sorted out, you coped remarkably well I think. Provided you can manage financially perhaps reducing your hours for a little while could be a good idea (I did, when a similar thing happened to me although I ended up liking the reduced hours so much I stayed on them, my choioce not theirs)
    Take care
  • Horaah! Both to you and the apology from manager, oh and company. And doc.

The world looks a good place again!

Don't worry about being uneasy- just think the manager is probably feeling her tail between her legs now. In addition, everything is now out there and no one can try to bring you down any more, even if it was meant to be a way of 'looking after' you!

The only way left is up.

Well done to you for seeing this through. See, you can do it!

    Hello

Just thought I'd come back to update/seek advice.

I went to see an occupational health Doctor back in January and I'm still waiting to see a copy of the report  I telephoned the occupational health department today to ask when I'm likely to receive it and they explained that it had been sent to my company's HR department. I'm pretty sure the Doctor told me that both the company and myself would receive a copy of the report.

While on the phone I was informed that a follow-up appointment had been made with the occupational health Doctor on 28/3/08 and it was noted down that I had failed to attend. The lady said a letter advising me of the appointment had been sent to my company's HR department. I was not informed by anyone of this appointment. The lady also informed me that the appointment had been rescheduled for 11/4/08, again I was not informed of this. I only happened to find out because I was asking where the report was.

I am extremely annoyed with the whole situation and have told my manager that I am not going next Friday. I've had enough of my company's HR department. Bupa Wellness and now Boots occupational health. It's a complete joke.

Anyway, I'm just wondering, as I have refused to attend next Friday's appointment can the company do anything i.e suspend me again or at worse sack me? My manager has said that I should attend but bearing in mind she's the reason why I went in the first place she would say this.

Hi RBK, you would not be sacked as that would be unfair dismisal. You need to put a letter in writting If you can to HR department asking why you was not informed of your appointments. Again the app on the 11th is short notice so they should not in anyway suspend you. It is not your fault that you have not been informed. In future any app's should be sent directly to you.

I'm just so mad :( They say they care about your wellbeing e.t.c but I really don't believe they do.

Sounds like a typical HR department to me. A lot of them can't find their own bottom with both hands, a map and a torch let alone tell it from their elbow. :)

Just make a note to your line manager and HR that you failed to attend due to the fact you were not notified of the appointment. Once it is in writing then it looks bad for them if they ever use it against you as it is their mistake. It's best not to refuse to attend. Suggest an alternative day when you think you would be up to going. If they push say their pushing is making you feel worse and if they continue to do this then your recovery is put in danger. I'd also suggest that you tell OH that they notify you directly of anything they arrange as HR have clearly shown themselves to be unreliable and you want to avoid mistakes in the future.

Employers don't really care. They generally do the bare minimum to comply with the law which usually involves pretending to care. Given the choice they'd get rid of anyone that so much as sneezed more than once. Having to make adjustments annoys them is they feel it upsets the balance of power (they want all of it) and being told they can't do something is frustrating for them.

My manager tried calling HR on Friday, no one answered the phone. She's left messages all week because she needs to know what to do about my reduced hours that I've been on, again, no one has called back. She tried to call the area manager re: my appointment and he was unavailable Wed, Thurs and Fri.

It's kind of funny really. The company's slogan is because we care
