RBK, can you try and send them a fax as well as keep trying to ring them?
I hope you get this sorted soon as to me they are not treating you right. Have you joined the union yet? If not please do so atleast then you are covered in the way of getting proper and legal advice and protecting you.
    All the best x

Today the occupational health secretary telephoned me at work to ask if I could attend Friday's appointment slightly earlier. I said sorry but I won't be attending. The secretary has then telephoned the HR department and informed them that I'm not attending, she's telephoned me and had a go, basically saying the company have a duty of care blah blah blah. I said well tbh I haven't seen much care so far. She disagrees with this. Anyway I told her about 3 times that I won't be attending and she just said something about having to go down a road she didn't want to go down, so I don't quite know what that means

    Hi RBK,

I can't believe they are still putting you through this.

TBH what the HR bod said today sounds like they might be planning to instigate the disciplinary procedure. If I were you, whether they do this or not, I would put in a grievance, detailing the way that you have been treated, and the undue stress and upset that has been caused to you.

Do you know when you should expect to hear from anybody again? x

    Hello

Just thought I'd come back to update/seek advice.

I went to see an occupational health Doctor back in January and I'm still waiting to see a copy of the report  I telephoned the occupational health department today to ask when I'm likely to receive it and they explained that it had been sent to my company's HR department. I'm pretty sure the Doctor told me that both the company and myself would receive a copy of the report.

While on the phone I was informed that a follow-up appointment had been made with the occupational health Doctor on 28/3/08 and it was noted down that I had failed to attend. The lady said a letter advising me of the appointment had been sent to my company's HR department. I was not informed by anyone of this appointment. The lady also informed me that the appointment had been rescheduled for 11/4/08, again I was not informed of this. I only happened to find out because I was asking where the report was.

I am extremely annoyed with the whole situation and have told my manager that I am not going next Friday. I've had enough of my company's HR department. Bupa Wellness and now Boots occupational health. It's a complete joke.

Anyway, I'm just wondering, as I have refused to attend next Friday's appointment can the company do anything i.e suspend me again or at worse sack me? My manager has said that I should attend but bearing in mind she's the reason why I went in the first place she would say this.

I was in a similar situation regerding doctors report DR told me wot he was puttin in the report,,I phoned work week later and HR said they wanted written info,,I accepted this ANother week went by and still no word so I phoned the company tht did the medical Doc secatary said seh had sent it out the same day medical was done I got on phone and spoke to HR manager 2 mins later I got a phone call sayin they just recieved report,, caled her a few names and things never progessed from there,,1 1/2 yrs later I gave up work I blame HR for not IMO doin job right but I know I couldnt do the work so I am better not working for health reasons but monetry is a diffrent matter:(

Can I check why you've refused to attend the OH appointment? Is it jsut because you're annoyed etc?

if so, I can say from the other side of it that course of action is the worst you could take.

Whatever you do, you need to attend the appt or ask them to rearrange it to a time convinient for you.

Would strongly urge you not to refuse to attend as you would be leaving yourself liable to accussations that they (in their imperfect wasy) tried to help and you refused their help, therefore absolving them of having to take reasonable steps as you did not work with them to determine what that may be.

I would write to the head of HR & cc OH to inform them that this is the second appt that you've not been notified about and asking what tehy will be doing to address eh shortcoming you've experienced.

Our OH & HR depts are external & run by idiots. They don't talk to each other, or to us, so I would urge you not to take their incompetence personally. I have honestly known something like this to happen through crapness of systems rather than active malice.

It may not be what you want to hear, but you do need to remember the big picture about where you want to be at the end of this all.

    Good luck

I think that's sound advice from LondonDiva, at the very least saying you do not feel able to attend AT PRESENT because of the distress caused by recent events and the communication difficulties would leave a door partly open.

    Thanks for the replies.

dmg24 My manager will probably contact HR tomorrow so I expect to know more when I go into work tomorrow afternoon. I've heard that she has been discussing it with another employee. The employee told me today that she was told by my manager of my appointment and that I said I wasn't going but my manager told this other girl that's just tough, she's going.

colin13 Sorry to hear about what happened to you and that you ended up having to give up work :( These people seem totally incompetent :( it really does annoy me.

LondonDiva I have already told the HR lady that I won't be attending and also put it in an email to her as she requested. You're right, I've probably made it worse for myself. I was just so angry and still am tbh. I really have had enough :(

i dont think being in that ype of job is helping your condition at all, with access to the drugs that may (or may not) have casued the problems..

i am surprised the firm has allowed you to continue until you are fully recovered- don't they have a responsibility (public liability / health and safety? COSHH ?) to protect their customers too, from any potential of the wrong items / dosage being given out, if not fully on the ball?

i hope you get yourself sorted soon.

OMG have you actually bothered to read any of RBK's posts? This is the most ignorant thing I have read for a long, long time.

I would never take medication from work 2 reports have come back from 2 different Doctor's stating that I am fit for work. The customers aren't at risk in any way. I'm a trainee tech. so like other dispensers/techs that I work with any prescriptions that we dispense are checked by a pharmacist.
