Buy as you view PPI reclaim ?

Options
Hello,

about 9 years ago I bought several products from Buy as you view.

Each time I bought a product I was told I had to buy the maintinance vouchers or I wouldn't be accepted for the product.

Its only now on doing a little research that I realise that the "maintance vouchers" are infact optional.

Also I was charged interest on the maintinance vouchers which I also believe is not allowed.

So my question is could I reclaim the money from buy as you view ?

Thanks for any help and advice

can you explain what buy as you view is and what it has to do with PPI?

    Hi
I had the same thing, I was told that I had to buy the maintenance vouchers as well and interest was added onto them. Mine was about 12 years ago.

Buy as you view are a company that allow you to buy goods, through a meter that is attached to your tv which you put £1 coins in.

When you buy a item you have to buy "maintainance vouchers" which are like a insurance for the item.

I wondered if this would also be covered under the ppi claims ?

Have you tried claiming anything back from them ?

Since PPI is insurance against becoming unemployed, I fail to see how this is in any way related? In order to complain about PPI you have to actually have the insurance, not some other financial product.

You can complain, if you want, to Buy As You View that the "maintenance vouchers" were somehow mis-sold to you.

Frankly, though, I can't see anything wrong in anything you have so far related?

    PPI - Payment Protection Insurance.

Maintenance Vouchers - NOT Payment Protection Insurance.

    No mis-selling pf PPI here.

Indeed, the company sell mainly white goods on a "rent-to-own" basis, but bump up the price by charging a hefty 49% APR. Customers can elect to pay via slot meter on their TV or via direct debit etc.

The confusion here seems to be that the OP thinks that the "Maintenance vouchers" were mis-sold because he was allegedly told they were compulsory when they weren't. For some reason, he thinks this is somehow linked to PPI.
  • OK thank you all for your help in clearing this up.

Hi Bladesbird, While its not PPI, I have read somewhere recently that it is misssold if you were told it was compulsory. How true this is I don't know.

I haven't made a complaint to them as yet. I've found all my paperwork and am reading through it, and will be researching about it more before I consider putting in a complaint.

If you do I will update this thread.

You would only have any chance with a complaint about this if the "insurance" (is it?) was definitely optional and you could somehow prove you were told otherwise. I expect any company paperwork and online information about "maintenance vouchers" to state that they are optional. How would you counter this?
