Paying for Repairs to another car

Hi
I recently bumped into the rear of a Mercedes and accepted liability and stated i will pay for damages, as i don't want my ncb affected.
The person has got quotes and is adamant for the work to be carried out by someone he knows who conveniently is cheaper out the three quotes he got, which is £250.
Which is fine but i said i want to pay by card, but the guy dont accept card, so he has suggested paying the money by chip and pin in his shop and he will withdraw the money.
Should i get him to sign a disclaimer as i wont get a receipt from the garage as i don't want him to turnaround and go through insurance.
Help will be much appreciated.
Regards

How you pay doesn't affect whether a receipt is provided or not. Nor does having a receipt affect whether he may later decide to involve his insurer.
Quite simply, if you don't trust him, go through insurance.0 -
Does anyone know how much it costs to repair a scuffed silver bumper on a mercedes? Would it be cheaper to go through insurance company and I pay them?0

Difficult to say without seeing the damage but £250 is probably on the cheap side to repair properly and repaint the whole bumper.0 -
If you go through insurance, they pay all except your excess.villa852010 wrote: »Would it be cheaper to go through insurance company and I pay them?0 -
How old is the Mercedes?.villa852010 wrote: »Does anyone know how much it costs to repair a scuffed silver bumper on a mercedes? Would it be cheaper to go through insurance company and I pay them?
Repair costs. £50 for conveniently cheaper mate. £20 paint and filler. £180 profit.0 -

£250 to repair a Merc? Is it a slight scratch on a non-metallic bumper? Get it paid, make out an agreement that this is in full and final settlement of the incident and move on.0

I think he is ripping me off but not sure if it would be cheaper to pay my insurance company, plus it will be on my car accident history if I tell them.0 -
It will be anyway, unless you're planning on lying to your insurers.villa852010 wrote: »plus it will be on my car accident history if I tell them.0 -

Don't be silly Adrian of course you don't tell your insurers what is the point in not going via your insurance.
If I was the other guy I would be getting a bit hacked off if the OP was messing around either pay the money or go via insurance.0
