Turkey has never been part of the EU.

The cheapest way (for next time, or for anyone else reading the thread) is (with roaming off) to use Viber or Skype, both of which are free to other service users.

You can ask nicely, and they may consider reducing it, but there is no legal rule under EU law, and this will be covered by the terms and conditions of your contract with EE.

Sorry if my post sounds blunt, but a quick Google before leaving would have saved you £500.

Turkey is not even European. 3% of it is geographically in Europe and 97% is in Asia, so technically it's mostly Asian.

As has been advised all you can do is ask your mobile provider nicely if they might consider reducing your bill or setting up a payment plan.

Unfortunately, I'm an English teacher and the only way this has helped me in this case is my ability of apostrophe usage, but we all know they're NEVER helpful. I'm also really good at origami, combing my hair and impersonating Tina Turner, so thank you to those who have pointed out that I'm only a few steps away from being perfect.

With my job being what it is, I should've realised that my original post was not explicit enough. I was just wondering, on an off chance, if anyone had any ideas of how to be a cheeky little monkey and get some money knocked off my bill. No wonder our education system is so poor except when it comes to broadcadting its own effectiveness. If you had put a fraction of this time into checking the charges from Turkey before you went you would have avoided any problems. People who don't bother and make assumptions then direct blame at innocent partners. Who cares what percentage of the population doesn't know thst know that Turkey isn't a member of the EU?
