This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Good morning everyone
Didn't sleep well last night so am very tired this morning and have a difficult meeting at work today, need to get past this then see what we can do to survive and restore the company.
Hospital are very pleased with the way I am healing but not so impressed I am back at work
DH late night tonight as adult enrolment has started at college so curry in the freezer will be utilised. My resolution is I will seriously get back to bulk cooking but I find that much easier in Autumn/Winter anyway.
Better get a move on but will try and pop back later for a catch up on everyone's news.
Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those that need or just want them. Keep well and safe and have a super day.

Good morning all
A busy day yesterday but I found going shopping with a list was really helpful (although I still managed to forget a few things) I was under budget but haven't bought the items for Sunday's meal yet
We're going blackberry picking today so hoping the rain stays off. Eldest DD is going to the seaside with her club so I just need to entertain the younger ones. Hopefully they will collect enough blackberries for an apple & blackberry crumble this evening
I'm glad everything went well yesterday Lily. Difficult circumstances but it went as you had planned
Laddo has just snook into bed so we're going to have cuddles and I will hopefully get him to go back to sleep for a bit. He's the only one now who will come into the bed of a night time, the others stay in their beds. I know I need to sort this but he's the youngest and I like cuddles2016 Grocery Challenge January: £296.20/£300 February: £262.05/£3000 -
Morning all,
Horrible day here again wet and much cooler off to work for dd and I but I don't think it will be busy.
Summer in winter chicken for dinner tonight with cous cous I think and some broccoli, I also need to get a wash on the go it will have to go on the airer.
For DW tablets I have used most of them from the very expensive to the cheapest and I can honestly say I don't think there is any difference between them at all, so I now go for the cheapest I can and snap them in half.
Lily glad all went well xx
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning All
Another lovely day on the horizon, it's about time we had some decent weather. I was outside sanding a table at 8pm and it was still fairly sunny but I have to say the wind was a bit chilly!
Mr A delivered the bulk of the shopping last night, DD will get fresh fruit and veg today as she is off. Ended up taking the wardrobe to the new owner's house as they were just a young couple trying to gather furniture for a flat but they turned up in a car that was totally unsuitable - you would think you would check if a wardrobe would fit wouldn't you?
Anyway it has gone now, just the carpet to lift when I can find the stanley knife!
HH - Hope you aren't too tired and the twins behaved themselves.
LilyP - Glad your Mum had a good send off.
TTFTM - Not surprised the hospital aren't happy with you!
Hugs to the poorlies and fed ups.
Need to throw the hoover about when I get home from work, washing just about to go on the line, DW emptied and lo hm thai curry for lunch. Not sure what to make for tea, will have a look in the freezer in a minute.
Hope you have a good day and the weather cheers up. Take care. XX0 -

Lilyplonk I'm glad yesterday went well xx
My horrible did-love-her-but-now-I-hate-her SIL has nominated me for the ice bucket challenge. Absolutely not a chance in hellI'm going to pretend I haven't been on FB
It was miserable all day yesterday so I stayed in. I've updated spreadsheets, shredded loads of paper for the nesting boxes, cleaned and hoovered the house and started a new baby blanket.
I'm going to tidy up the kitchen then concentrate on me for the rest of the day. I'm feeling a bit stronger – especially my leg – so I'm going to attempt my yoga DVD again. I tried it a few weeks ago and couldn't do a lot of it, my balance was off and I couldn't put all my weight on my right leg, it was OK on my left though. Didn't really want to exercise only one half of meI'm going to sort through my yarn and see what I need. Also write a work timetable, people are just going to have to get used to it and realise that I'm not here, I'm at work. Even though I am actually in the house

Morning everyody :hello: - looks like we're dawning a 'bright new day' here. Fingers crossed that it stays that way for the rest of the day
.
TTFTM - thanks for starting the new thread. Sorry to hear that you didn't have a good night's sleep - but it's not surprising given that you've got an unpleasant meeting due in work today. Best of luck for the company and hope you can all find a sound strategy to build on for the future.
jlhmd - Well done on sticking to your shopping list :T - have to admit that I frequently 'wander' from mine. Though I DO allow for a couple of ££'s worth of whoopsies within it
. Hope you get plenty of blackberries - I used to borrow an old walking stick from a neighbour to help with reaching the high-up branches :j.
redruby - 'Summer in Winter Chicken' sounds very intriguing - what is it please?
camelot - How lovely of you to deliver the wardrobe for that young couple :A - amazing how some young 'uns can be so naive in some of their expectations. I can remember being a bit like that - w-a-y back in the 'mists of time'.
tru - don't blame you for hiding from the 'ice-bucket challenge' - I wouldn't let on that I'd seen it either . Finding a work balance while 'working from home' is so difficult - I did it for 23yrs. It was amazing how frequently grandchildren would be dropped off with me, when I was supposed to 'on-duty' - they just thought because I was there, it would be OK.
DS2 found some rhubarb growing on his allotment - he's only just 'exploring it' at the moment - and he brought around 2.5lbs of it for me yesterday. I've got some 'shrivelled up' apples in the fruit bowl, so will cook those up with it later today. dgk's are already asking for fruit crumble for next weekend. If I make it, the little blighters had better eat it :rotfl:. Personally, I'd settle for cooked rhubarb/apple with fat-free yoghurt .
Plans for today include:- Try to get this living-room into some semblance of order as we 'cut and run' yesterday, leaving stuff scattered
.
- Work out what we're having for tonight's meal - think it will involve 'digging deep' into the freezer. I think I spotted some Oxtail Stew in there at the weekend ............... plus some sprouts that could do with using up.
- Prep & Cook the Rhubarb and Apples - probably cook them in the microwave to save on gas/electric.
- Get some soup out of the freezer to take to the shop with me for lunch today - I'm thinking Spicy Parsnip
.
- Trip to A$da this evening after work - we're down to 2 toilet rolls, got no bread in freezer and only 1 carton of long-life milk. Will need to take 'Wally the Trolley' with me :rotfl:.
- Get a card of watch batteries - I've got three watches and a kitchen timer that need new ones.
Right then, it's time for breakfast - as there's no ordinary bread, it will have to be toasted ciabatta with marmalade this morning .......
Thank you all for your support during the past couple of weeks especially when I've 'waffled on'.
for all who need or want them - especially those coping with illness, whether it's their own or a loved one or pet.
To those involved with children, enjoy the last few days of the school hols - think even the kids will be glad to get back to their school routine :rotfl:.
Hope everybody has a great OS-day. - luv Lilyplonk xxx0 - Try to get this living-room into some semblance of order as we 'cut and run' yesterday, leaving stuff scattered

Hi everyone
I'm back from my holiday in Scotland and it was nice reading up on your news.
My DH has got a back to work meeting today after fourteen months off sick following a spinal haemorrhage - he's really hoping to start back on Monday but that might be a bit optimistic. They also need to create a new job role for him as he needed to travel a lot before and isn't mobile enough for that now, and I'm not as convinced as he is that it will all come off. It would be so good to get some more money coming in - it's been a terribly expensive year, one way or another.
We've nearly eaten up everything in the fridge, freezer and cupboards - I really wanted to make a fresh start today from clean empty cupboards, but I haven't had time to make my shopping lists yet - I will try to get some planning done before we head out to his work (I'm still on holiday from my own job until Monday).
One massive unfrugal from my holiday is that I lost a library book - I won't stop being annoyed with myself until I've sorted that out! Apparently you can buy another copy yourself if you think you can get it cheaper than the library can - it has to be in good condition, and A****n only have ones in 'good' rather than 'very good' or 'as new' condition - I think I'll risk it as it's £8.99 new and only £2.81 second-hand.
Hope you all have a lovely day - I'm keeping my fingers crossed that DH will have a successful meeting!0 -
Good morning ,its lovely here today, not a cloud in the sky so I shall enjoy my walk through the fields in a bit.
Lily, glad yesterday went well, hope you managed to get back to sleep.Family history is one of my hobbies & thats why my cousins came yesterday ( well one of them, the other came just cos she was off work!-once we got on the FH I think we bored her to bits and she went home :rotfl:)
TTFTM-good luck with the meeting, and also Julias DH
My birthday today so my DB2 is coming with DNiece (10),always nice to see them.Had some lovely presents -picked most of them myself online, but a couple of 'surprises' from friends. I decided to get myself the equipment for doing gel nails at home,I've had a practice on my toes & that went ok.:D Hands might be a different matter.I've loved having chip free nails from when I had them done the other week. One of the best things last night was having DGD ( 3 next month) sing Happy Birthday dear 'Gwan' and blowing the candles out with her about 5 times on the hedgehog cake she got
DH and DS2 off early to the job thats a good hours drive away, never mind its steady money. We had to go to the bank yesterday to sort out the transfer of money for our house purchase so should get the keys on Friday and then the hard work starts renovating it.Hmm that won't do my new nails much good will it ?:rotfl:
Not decided yet whats for tea but still have some meat in the fridge from the food festival so it might be meat pie and wedges.
Hope its a good day for you all x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)0 -
Good morning all,
RosyRed a very happy birthday to you
LILY I am pleased everything went as well as you had hoped.
It isn't raining today, yipeeeeeeeeeeeee, and there is blue in the sky.
Have an 8.40 appointment with the Nurse for an asthma check, I don't normally have a separate appointment for this, she usually does it at same time as medication revue, BP etc..
After that popping up to see DD and taking her sick note and prescription which we picked up yesterday. She sees the Surgeon next Wednesday so I hope there is some improvement this has been going on for so long.
I must do some washng when we come home, and if necessary will have to put it in the TD.
Have a good day everyone
