  • This is Iain's girlfriend here, Basically the flat is still in both my parents names. I have argued with her until being blue in the face about my dads name coming off as he has 5 other children and god forbid something was to happen to him his other children could end up having rights to the flat as well legally! I am just praying this isn't all going to end up a nightmare but I fear there are things my mum isn't telling me. its been 4 months since my mother said she has been trying to take my dads name off the lease.. should it take as long as this? is she lying to us?! There was also recently a break in at our next door neighbors flat and the burglar attempted to break in to our flat also. Our front door is now damaged because of this and we were told by a joiner to get a new door ASAP as the same thing could happen again and someone could actually get in to our flat next time. My mum just isn't listening or taking this seriously. This is how the buildings insurance came into discussion. We were told we could get a replacement door for free through insurance but of course she doesn't have any!! this is a rather scary thought as anything could happen to the flat and we would get NOTHING!

In case anyone is confused, I am Iain. And yes, the whole reason the issue of building insurance came up recently is because of this break in next door. The police were actually the ones who mentioned to us we could claim for a brand new door through insurance - but low and behold, we don't have any.
