New EE SIM card SCAM - £850 bill

They can tell you which handset makes the call - get them to compare the IMEI recorded at the start of these calls, and if it is the same as yours. It may well be an error in marrying your new SIM to your account, especially if you cannot see any of the numbers you dial.0

Ooooooh so how do i find the IMEI number ? I was advised to go into EE store and they have cut up this rogue SIM card and given me a new one You would think that the fraud/investigation team would have already checked this but I doubt it very much
Just thinking tho that the call to the 0800 number did show up on the bill _ i made this call yet there were about 7 calls made in Spain on the same day.0 -
*#06# on the keypad, or have a look at the label behind the battery (on phones that you can remove the battery).
When I discovered the fraud on the 8th August I was advised to go into local EE shop and obtain a new SIM card. Since having the new SIM there have been no more fraudulant calls.0 -

That's good, but I'm not sure why you have quoted my post as if you are replying to it.
I was just answering your question, that you posted yesterday at 9:26pm...====0 -

Thanks - i was just saying that I no longer have the old SIM card in my phone that has been used fraudulently - this was replaced by EE when I discovered the fraud.0 -
Finally EE have today admitted that I had not made these calls in Spain Gibralter and UAE !!!!!!!!!!! RELIEF !!! They have refunded the £800 in full - with a goodwill gesture paying my own bill for the last 2 months of £78. I've asked to be released from the contract as so scared this may happen again but they refuse to do this without a charge.0

As I thought - it has been an incomplete linking of your original SIM to your handset, and as I suggested, they only gave to look at the phone IMEI to know which handset made the call, so you would have been safe enough.
They have actually been very fair, and have compensated you for what was ultimately their error so no free pass for a release - but that was a long shot anyway. It cannot happen again (assuming the new SIM was correctly applied to your account).
For info, every call you make logs lots of additional data, in addition to the date and time, it stores the IMEI and IMSI codes, base station used and which sector connected the call. Other base stations add triangulation info that confirms AND tracks where the phone is - oh, and duration!0 -
Good result. :T0
