I have been given an iPhone that is locked to the Orange network. The mobile number has been ported to another network.

In other words I do not have the Orange number.

The person who gave me the phone who used it on the Orange network for years is happy to do the required administration as she had the contractural relationship with Orange.

When you phone Orange the answer system asks for the orange number.

I can't find a customer services number that will put me through to a human being who I can ask what the original owner must do to get the phone unlocked.

I'm happy to pay the £20 or so admin charge.

Grateful for any advice and guidance.

Try the online form? I'm not sure how it affect the process with the original account holder no longer with Orange though.

Just get the owner to input the original Orange number when they ring or ring via 07973100150 and don't input a number and it should put you through to CS.

Alternatively you can apply on their website.

I do like this bit ...

Don't they mean 'at least three weeks'??? ;)

It has to be the account holder who requests the unlock code and it can (and will) only be processed against the account the phone was originally registered to.

You will need your friend to contact Orange and request this (doesn't matter that the account is now closed). They will have to verify the account information and then it should be processed after that. Or they can fill the form in on the link provided by d123.

    Thanks for all your comments.

I tried puttinng in the original Orange number when I got through to the Orange customer services line but it wasn't recognisd. (I wasn't surprised as the number has been ported to my benefactors new supplier.

The online form requires you to have an active Orange account to which they then can charge the admin fee.

    There is no active account.

I tried just staying on the line after it asked for the handsets Orange telephone number expecting it to default to a human being. But it didn't.

Hence the request for a number that will connect to an Orange human being.

Thanks again for all your help and patience.
