There's a huge difference between stepping on toes and getting full on screeched at by those who feel it is "their" board. I posted once, never again.

I always thank the OP for posting, as it is just good manners, but this board is so darned cliquey that I will not take personal attacks, abuse or threats as I did last time, it just isn't worth it.

Hi,I cannot see your post on MSE comps to comment but sorry if you had a bad experience.

Could you post a link to your post so we can see the issues involved?

Cheers for the input on this slightly now off the wall thread.

I post competitions. I'm not particularly bothered about how many Thanks I receive, however I do tend to respond negatively when people take digs at me, especially if they don't post comps themselves. Returning to the point of people not being prepared to say boo to a goose in the offline world, I present to you my review of Behind The Bus Stop in Northampton:

    http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUserReviews-g186349-d3935092-r184654502-Behind_The_Bus_Stop-Northampton_Northamptonshire_England.html

You will note that the proprietor (Alan) was distinctly unimpressed by the fact that I told him and his waitress, to their faces, about the things that we were unimpressed about. They're used to customers that smile sweetly, thank them profusely and then never bother going back, they're not so keen on being told the truth to their faces. Having said that, I still feel that I did a fair and balanced review...

I'm sad that you feel that way. I have only ever seen one person do what you mention, and that person has recently had their posting rights permanently removed.
Thanks to all who post constructively.

It was taken down by mods over a year ago because of what was said.

I posted a competition which I found on a Facebook page that I liked because it was local to me, and my niece had been to a birthday party there and I was nosey. The cretin who decided to take offence at it literally threatened me, said some not very nice things, and then made out it was not their fault.

Nothing happened to that user (I've seen them post in the not too distant past), it was brushed off. Had I have behaved in such a way I would have been removed from the forums.

I just stay away for the most part now; I have health issues which were exacerbated because of the stress of it, and my health is far more important.

I've also seen fairly recently (last month-ish) newbies get jumped on by regulars because they may have posted one thing wrong (nothing vital to the comp, or the T&Cs) and its just vile to see.

Do you have a link to the thread in question? It might be more constructive to highlight things like that to the FMT, rather than turn a blind eye. People here don't like self-promotion, but I've found that to be true in most areas of the MSE forums, in all fairness, not just this part.

Again, the offending posts were removed. It just really bloody grinds my gears that I have to segregate life on this forum because of a couple of not nice people. Ah well, that's life.

    Saddened by all this

I see both sides. I work regularly as an unpaid volunteer in a national organisation. I probably need some positive feedback/appreciation ,from time to time, from my manager and/or clients but it is my choice to work in this field.

I don't post comps partly because, for a relative Newbie, it seems that specific people have taken these roles. However, I always thank posters when I have clicked on their comps and thank them again if I win.
    Still cracking on....

Yes, it's a pity. Having said that, other forums that I frequent are definitely more confrontational than this one, and gaming forums in particular can be extremely abusive. Poker forums also become quite nasty and personal at times. I find this one relatively civilised (most of the time!) :p

Haters gonna hate but it's really annoying that a lot of these prizes go to members that don't seem to contribute, at all, to the forums. They don't post comps, a lot of them don't thank the poster of the comps ... they don't contribute any posts that gain themselves any "thanks".

Im sure a lot of them get comps from elsewhere and just don't bother posting them because they don't want to narrow down their own chances of winning.

Annoying ... of course there's some jealousy there 'cause I've yet to win anything, but at least I feel I've contributed in my short time here
    </Rant>

OOh so judgemental!! I don't click thanks on the competitions I enter for a very good reason but always thank by PM when I win. It's easy to judge other people but often you only know half the story. People contribute in ways that are NOT publicly viewable as well. And a lot of the prizes will go to people who are not even a member of the forum and who just enter without joining.
